I was chatting to someone who was part of the COC17 team the other day - he said the running of things has passed over to a new 'company' of 20 people, with the COC17 team being around 100 people. The new 'company' is Absolutely Cultured, and they've spent the first 6 months of the year getting their team together and planning, apparently. I know they've announced the big Domino Run in August as their first major event as a new company. They were also interviewing people to become volunteers (in the blue jackets, like we had during COC17) today. Another reason for the disjointed plan/lack of continued momentum is that there is less joined up thinking, as a lot of events and things run by COC17 have been handed over to individual teams to complete, rather than being run by Absolutely Cultured. For example, Absolutely Cultured are still running Humber St Gallery, but the bar and food has been passed over to be run by The Brain Jar, where as previously it was all ran by COC17. I believe Freedom Festival is being ran separately too, amongst over things which were previously more joined up/encompassed under one umbrella of COC17.
Last time I went to 1884DSK was during midweek and every table was full. Reading between the lines, it looks like 1884 is owned by a property development company called Headstart Properties (wouldn't be surprised if they own the building in Hessle), and sounds like because when they started they had the area to themselves with the ability to offer a unique dining experience in the city, it was easier to command the higher prices and a more luxury dining experience in comparison to anywhere else in the city - I imagine they'll reopen and it'll be more like Butler Whites - higher-side of casual, with a more prominent area to drink.
Freedom Festival has always been very separate. It’s a separate company entirely. One problem is that the new Chief Exec of Absolutely Cultured left only a few weeks after starting. The idea of a legacy is sometime confused by people. There was never the view that there would be continual events on, but it was more that the legacy would be that people would have the confidence and knowledge to set their own stuff up Not perfect by any stretch but that does seem to happened to a certain extent
It's shut because it wasn't worth the money they were charging and not enough people went, the last twice I went we were one of only three or four tables with anyone on them and that was for Sunday lunch.
I see planning permission is in again for 26 apartments at the old Rosedowns Hennebique building owned by the Allams. Any objections?! The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
It wouldn't be a complete surprise if some came from City supporters - just to balance things a little!
This is a good read That dam we wanted to build in N Yorks could well have helped stop the flooding years later given how much wanted from there ends up in the Hull ‘bowl’ ?
Yes I keep harping on, but the Castle Street thing has gone awfully quiet again, and the footbridge to go with it.
The bridge is sorted, works start in October and will take a year. The main works are more vague, they're supposed to start in 2020, but it will probably slip again.
Impressive set designs for this filming in town. Can see there's more money in the budget compared to the Victoria filming. Peter Capaldi was having lunch outside our gaff apparently. Said hello to the missus and kids. Now there's an anecdote to tell the grand kids.
looks good does anyone else think its getting a bit swamped with eateries though? lots of places and you worry whether the trade will be sufficient to sustain them all?
Yes!! It's the Monday to Thursday trade that will be very difficult. Went in the new Berts on Saturday. Pretty reasonable prices!
If they are offering cuisine that you struggle to find elsewhere I would hope they should do fine. Not many places you'd go specifically for seafood and I do like my seafood.
We were saying the same. How much trade will a restaurant receive mid week, mid winter? It is planned to increase centre living, but is there enough to sustain these?
