Both are kind of true but categorically stating that we'll never have a better chance and then saying we're building a great Englad team surely has to hold some form of contradiction. If he'd said "Probably never have a better chance" that removes it all - it wasn't a dig (I'd had a few when I posted it so sorry if it sounded that way @clockstander )
Yeah that stuck in my mind. He's a cracking centre mid. I just never feel he looks comfortable around the box, snatches at his chances as though he's panicked. Weird because he's a composed passer and can strike the ball well.
I watched Delle Alli facing forward 45 yards from goal last night turn around when he had a semi-difficult pass and pick the easy pass. the Semi-difficult would've potentially set up a chance (although, to be fair, it was to Sterling) - if Henderson had done that he'd be slated on social media. Think he had a great tournament - he's showing to be a very good footballer. But I think he cares too much what the press and twatterers say!! At least that's how it looks - his thought process of "If I shoot and miss from here I'll get slated" seemed to be there!
I must have been hammered last night - there is zero contradiction at all as you said probably!!! Sorry fella - too many beers (sorry @GiaccTheLad too!) Not one for trying to cover tracks - I ****ed up and I'm firmly blaming alcohol! I never even looked back before replying this morning - just used the hazy memory of posting last night!!
No problem Marcus, and apologies for spelling your name wrong, no pun intended, its just that I rely on spellcheckers, and mine has been unreliable lately. Getting back to "proper football", a player we have often debated, old Catts., may just have a very good season, it would be great if he could have an Indian Summer and it is not beyond possibility. imo.
Mine too - doesn't look like he's going anywhere so hopefully he'll find his (now) level! In the past he's looked every bit as good as most lower mid table PL DMs! Last season he looked like I did playing DM in a pub game last year - Only I probably looked better (and I was 41 at the time and hadn't played for over a year) This division should be meat and drink for Cattermole - should is the operative word though! Hard work and teamwork get you out - not prima donnas
Anyone else seen the video of Rashford and Lingard trying to kick off and score while Croatia were celebrating their second goal? Absolutely bizarre that either a) they somehow still don't understand the rules of kickoffs b) they lost their heads to the extent that they tried to cheat despite knowing it wouldn't work. Pair of goons.
Desperation. At least they gave a damn. Previous teams would have just accepted their fate and be done with it.
The rule states every player must be in their own half except the player kicking off. It was worth a try and would have been funny as hell.
What am I missing about it being worth a try when none of the Croatians were in their own half apart from the keeper?
Well I've also seen something that says there could be a technicality as no Croatia players were actually on the pitch they were celebrating in the corner. There is a picture of Portugal celebrating against Spain but Fonte remained on the pitch to stop the game being able to be restarted. Maybe there was something in it but maybe we are just clutching at straws. I still remember the dirty argie ****ers taking a free kick in the 1998 world cup when our players were celebrating Sol Campbells disallowed goal. Different circumstances yes but I still think it was worth a go.
As far as I can tell you may as well say "Henderson should have picked the ball up and run the ball into the net, worth a try" for all the likelihood it would be allowed.
Slightly less probable as Henderson had been subbed off at that point. Just slightly less probable though.
Croatia seemed as strong if not stronger than us in extra time, add to that good awareness and footwork in tight situations and you have a team that will test France if they can recover from three hard games in a row . Its amazing that such a small country can produce so many top class players that they have over the years and I am looking forward to seeing them in the final, despite the disappointment of it not being us, I hope they win it.
To stop celebrations going on forever, it would be interesting to say that a team is entitled to restart after x amount of time
