that said, despite the media love in, we overachieved, didn’t beat a decent side and Southgate is a nice guy but a one trick pony who couldn’t/wouldn’t change things when we were getting outnumbered and overrun in midfield. We played well for 25-30 minutes in every game then looked gassed. Beaten by a better side tonight.

Don't get the animosity myself, I would have liked for Wales, Ireland and Scotland to have been at the finals too, if England had't been there I would have cheered on one of the home nations. The Olympics it is all team GB I don't care what nationality they are, thought we did well this world cup, you can over analyse it, say we had an easy passage, pick fault with tactics selection or whatever you like but at the end of the day we qualified, every team at the finals qualified on merit and results, no easy teams, we finished top 4, got to be proud of that

There is no animosity mate, just an expected response to some over-exuberent slagging from the Engerland contingent recently, most of whom are now AWOL. With a population of 1.5m I can't see us at the WC anytime soon, but then look at Iceland - 350k inhabitants.
Must say I agree I am English and proud of it, having said that if any of the other home nations had been playing I would have cheered them on, unless of course they were playing England. Some of the animosity is tongue in cheek, unfortunately some really do mean it.
We were naive in defence, like to play the ball backwards too much, keep playing the useless Sterling, Kane and Rashford didn't perform and failed to take our chances when we could and should have had it sewn up. Still before the start I wouldn't have put us down as top 4 at the World Cup.
I love a bit of banter with the home nations, all good natured from my part and generally their’s in my experience... though some welsh guys seem to get very prickly about rugby!
Don't know about the other Celts, but the thing that really pisses off us Scots is the english mantra of 'we'd support you if england were out' as though it's an obligation for us to follow suit. How many can say they cheered on scum in the Champions League? Should be shot if you did! Will Sunderland fans root for Newcastle since they're no longer in the PL? Rangers fans support Celtic? Hearts support Hibs? Arsenal support Spurs, Swansea support Cardiff? Holland support Germany? I think not to all of those, so why this expectation for Celts to fall into the english way of thinking, but only on an international level? Could someone please explain?
