https://www.theguardian.com/comment...-to-saving-a-penalty-left-right-football-jump Interesting piece about action bias. Come on You England Spurs + Teammates!
"Making good decisions means keeping our bias towards action in check. Often the secret to success is doing nothing, at least for a while. For instance, the best tennis players are able to hold off responding to a shot for an opponent as long as possible. This gives them time to analyse the incoming ball and respond in the right way." In the "Lean" process methods, this is known as the "last responsible moment" (and "decision by default" ) . The premise being that up to a key point there are possible options for selection, and beyond that the decision is made by default (and may not be the one that is necessarily the best) .
Other ways for a goalkeeper to guarantee success in a World Cup penalty shootout * Be a foot off your line, which none of the officials appear to notice * Spend so long poncing about as the penalty taker gets in position it distracts them * Hope the ref suddenly becomes very fussy about the ball's positioning on the spot, as I can't recall a single time the taker's scored when that happens

Unchanged England starting XI. Just need Alli to throw Sterling out of the way of wherever he wants to be.
To be honest I want Stirling to start now. When we lose now we won't hear from the moronic pundits how we would have won if only Stirling had played.
Sterling will actually score one day. The problem is all the missed chances for him and others up to that point. No doubt when he does all the pundits will be saying that the doubters were actually wrong forgetting (1) they themselves have said that it isn't important that he doesn't score because of his "all round game", but when he does suddenly it will become important and (2) how many matches can you have an attacking midfielder not score, and moreover miss so many chances? Apparently it is unlimited. Anyway, I did say I wouldn't go down this route again, because the media narrative is clearly that he is beyond criticism.
Sterling will score one day, as did Darren Bent occasionally. That's why I think Southgate is right by not changing a winning team, the opposition will be **** scared that he will come good tonight. They will have to defend against him, which may make space for the others who do have a clue what they are doing.
