Whichever Chelsea fan said 8 million wasn't disrespectful..... so we bought him for I believe 11.5 or something close to that, and since he came to the prem he has become worse? He was voted fans player of the year and we would want all of our money back, not to mention selling to a rival, add to that he can cut it in the prem and is still in his prime years, sorry it would have to be at the least 12-13. 4-5 million might not be that much in today's market, but that is still wages, another player, money to work on training ground or stadium. It is always useful having a few extra million.

We're talking about a highly capable, reliable and flexible midfielder, who's strong in attack and defense, with pace and tactical awareness, at his peak age, good enough to play in the first XI of any team in the league, who won PFA player of the year last year, being sold to our nearest rival in the league. £20M is a minimum realistic price and that's only because we have cover in central midfield.

The reason its so low is because A) He is quite old for a footballer and B) Liverpool aren't really making a huge effort to keep him, and wouldn't mind selling him for £11m or so, according to Tony Evans from the Times. So Yossi + £8m is probably enough, just that we didn't want Yossi.

Liked Yossi, but give us Sturridge, Kalou, mata ( jk......sort of). Most everyone is old on that team which is a problem as we don't want people past their best or closer to the end of their careers.

Sorry Raaaul but I'm with Eddie B on this one. We don't need to sell him for a start and he's not too old to be a top level midfielder for a good few years (I remember the days when experience was as valuable as youth, Gary Mac for example). He might not be as silky as Modric but he's a very good box to box midfielder with great movement off the ball, has an eye for goal and a good engine. For me he's worth a fair bit more than we paid for him having had a good first season.

Before anyone questions whether he would get into any midfield in the league, I'll make an exception; Chelsea already have some top CMs in Essien, Mikel, Ramires and Lampard so they don't actually need him. Why it's Chelsea and not Arsenal, United or Spurs trying to buy him is totally beyond me.

There is an absolute cataloge of players who have come from big clubs who have failed in the prem. Off the top of my head I can think of Robinho, Roque Jr, Shevchenko

Kleberson, veron, aqua ( people say he is a flop so added him), brolin, makoun recently for villa was good for lyon but couldn't cut it here, the list can go on if you really want to dig.

It's difficult to pinpoint someone who plays in the same central midfield style as him who has failed (maybe Tomas Brolin at a push) but for general central midfielders who have failed you have Veron, Poulson, Djemba-Djemba off the top of my head

We better not let Meireles go. He was great last season and then brilliant under Kenny. We have played 3 matches in the league so far, he will start matches as it progresses. He works brilliantly with Suarez and offers something completely different to the team. He isn't for sale, it should be that easy and £8m is a joke for the pfa fans player of the year.

As far as Liverpool-Chelsea transfers go, a goal is valued at about £50m. So Meireles' 5 goals should set them back about £250m...

<doh> - The perfect face for many of these outlandish comments.

How on earth is N'Gog as good as Sturridge?!?!??!??!??! You need shooting my friend.

Meireles isn't even in your starting XI, there is no way he's worth over 15m. Sturridge is one of our star prospects for the future, I can almost guarantee we won't be giving him to you in this barbaric deal after his pre season performances.

this is really really simple, no matter WHAT fee is presented (or not if its made up by the press) there is no "respect" or "Disrespect"

    It's business.

Chelsea do what they can to minimise outlay and we do what we can to maximise income.... what is the difference here between wenger posturing over cahill (which may also have been made up by the press) OR us underbidding suarez in january.

I think people need to stop making things personal......

I think he might have been joking...

Anyway, Meireles came into Liverpool last season for around £11.5M and did well in his first season in English football. He scored goals and created goals. He got PFA fan's player of the year and is liked among Liverpool fans and is happy at Liverpool. Can't see this deal happening...

I certainly hope he was <laugh>. Listen I do rate Meireles as a player, but some of you Kopites are overpricing him far too much <ok>. I don't think we need him, he's not the kind of player we really need.

To be fair, he was brought for around £11M and has done well in his first season... You can understand why we all rate him at around £15M. I can't see this one happening unless Raul wants to go to Chelsea and forces the issue.

By the way, I just had a cheeky look at Raul's wikipedia page and it says he's signed for Chelsea in an £18M deal! ;)

We shouldn't sell him really, we're not a selling club and letting Aquilani go and Meireles would be a big mistake.
