On the official website the club have asked us to vote on the next goal celebration music played at Portman Road. Now I have to say that I am a stick in a mud and would prefer no music at all which is what we have at the moment. Why bother using music after a goal has been scored? This has only been introduced in the last 10 years or so and is just another example of the creeping "Americanism" that has invaded most parts of our popular culture. We have never needed music to celebrate a goal in the past so why bother with it now? I mean ****ing Chelsea Dagger! I ask you what the **** was that all about! The only reason we had goal music introduced was after an away game at Sheffield Utd when some of our lot liked the idea of them playing "Tom Hark!" after they scored. They have even decided to **** about with the "Singing The Blues" club anthem. The latest version that I heard on Saturday was just god awful. Why do people insist on fixing something when it isn't broken! The music played at PR these days sounds like its been put together by a load of indie students in a bedsit. The only thing I did like was that lovely local singer Laura Wright from Suffolk College at the tribute to Sir Bobby. She was absolutely amazing and knows how to belt out a tune. She has a big future with superb voice like hers. Anyhow my suggestion for the goal music would be "Its A Miracle" by the Culture Club!
I understand and sympathise with the arguments against goal music but if put on after a gap for natural cheering it can help with the atmosphere getting all the stands to join in with something, and maybe get a few people out of their 'shells' and start to sing along, not everybody knows or can understand all the chants but music is at least easy to follow, then when the music stops normal celebratory chanting can continue. The other thing is anything on the pitch can be cheered at, a good pass, good pressure leading to a corner, a refereeing decision, so, and i know its a weak argument, at least it separates it out and makes it a celebration of something that counts towards victory in a game. Out of the options ill be voting for 2.East Town Pirates at least its a little bit more original and specific to us than chelsea dagger or the one we had before
I voted for number 4. Could really fire the crowd up and help to antagonise the away supporters. We love you Ipswich wooaah We love you Town wooaah We've got one in the net so Come On Ipswich Agree with Mike about celebration music getting more people involved. Sure it may seem american, so what. If it helps generate some atmosphere, who cares. All the choices were a bit punky but I liked this one because it was the most specific to scoring a goal. Number 3 was more mainstream and could sound good too. Not saying violence is cool but punk music does get people fired up and might be just what we need to make PR a more formidable venue for away teams to visit.
It was not too bad when it was James Brown - but seriously get rid. If anything it kills off chanting cos the minute it stops it goes quiet and everyone sits down!
Not really the musics fault, those who sit down would sit down anyway after the cheering dies down, i know id still chant after music
Be happier if they dumped the singing the blues 'song' at the start - whatever bloody version - gets on my tit (sorry JWM). Now a song for every player would be good mind you......few ideas.... Stockdale - (double A side) Under Pressure / Innocent Man Edwards - (double A side) Baby Come Back / Help Delaney - (double A side) Oops I Did It Again / It Wasn't Me Sonko - Can We Fix It Cresswell - Wannabe Andrews - Shooting Star Murphy - The Irish Rover Leadbitter (triple A side) - When You Say Nothing At All / Tragedy / The useless ****er song Bowyer - Living In The Past JET - your socks are on fire Chopra - I'm Your Man Scotland - He Ain't Heavy, He's My Striker and Nathan Compares To You Ellington - see above Bullard - Already has a perfectly good song Gio - Just An Illusion / Just My Imagination
The players could come out to "When 2 tribes go to war!" Frankie goes to Hollywood Grant Leadbitter song would be "RELAX Don't do it!" Frankie goes to Hollywood
if we are winning easily we could go for 'another one (team) bites the dust!' If we start playing songs for away goals then when a team has pulled it back from 2-0 to 2-1 then we could play 'under pressure' When we are losing but manage to pull 1 goal back - 'can we fix it'
