Sudan is the third largest country on the continent mate.

Correct Cologne, Algeria has 2,381,740 sq kilometres. Next is the Democratic Republic of Congo with 2,345,410 km2.

Cheers Nines. A while back I found myself on a road with a name which, when translated into English, means 4 countries way, or 4 countries road. It led to a place where 4 national borders once met - the only case of this ever found in Europe. Where was it ?

Ok somewhere near Maastricht I would guess, Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg. Don’t think that works anyway

But ‘once met?’ Hmmmmm.....is this something to do with Saarland?

Not to do with Saarland Stan, though you're on the right lines. One of the 4 territories adopted Esparanto as an official language.

It must involve a country that doesn’t exist any more, or somewhere where borders have changed.

Having pursued the Esperanto clue, does this involve the hitherto unknown to me territory of Neutral Moresnet, a place so obscure that it didn’t even feature in the wonderful Vanished Kingdoms by Norman Davies (a book I plundered for early questions on this thread)?

If yes it would be Neutral Moresnet, Netherlands, Belgium and Germany.

<applause> Duly impressed. Neutral Moresnet existed from 1816 to 1920 and the northernmost tip formed a meeting of borders with Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany - the road I was talking about the 'Vierlanderweg' was in the Netherlands. It was under the joint rule of Prussia and the Netherlands (until Belgium was created in 1830) used the French Franc as its currency and, for a while, adopted Esparanto as its language. The effective rulers of the place were the Vieille Montagne mining company. Over to you.

I was just dealing with some work stuff for a change. The stuff that happened this morning was over with in 15 minutes and not at all traumatic (for me).

    Right........who said

“Everything I know about morality and the obligations of men, I owe it to football.”

    Easy one I think.

I suppose that that is technically a correct answer (as in corpus Christi), but it's not what I was looking for.
