I was right though. We only just managed to beat Tunisia after an injury time goal. We then beat a pub team. We then lost to Belgium's reserves. We couldn't beat Colombia in 120 minutes who had their best player missing as injured. We looked poor in that extra time period and got lucky in the shootout as they hit the underside of the bar and they usually cross the line. And we beat Sweden who has no quality players at all but only beat them because Pickford probably had his best game of his career. We've been lucky being in the bottom half of the draw. I am not complaining though. Im loving every bit of it. But we haven't really played well in games. Thankfully we know how to take set pieces!! I will say this though, I love how Southgate has got the players relaxed and calm. The only time we looked shakey was in extra time vs Colombia. The players look like they are all getting on so well. Lingard and Trippier have been outstanding though. Both should be in the team of the tournament. Alli has been poor. Even in todays game and he scored! Even though a better keeper would have easily saved his header.
Captain looks like you got most things wrong, that's what happens when you support a league one side.
My politician reply..... I was right at the time. But details has chanced since that were not known at the time and no one really could have predicted a semi final minimum finish for us. That goal in added time in game 1 vs Tunisia basically changed our fortunes. Out of nowhere, we had momentum which was no expected and players have fed off of that and so they should.
When I think about all the times we went to the World Cup, with a supposed group of superstars who decided not to show up, and came back with more than a little egg on our face and yet another embarrassing performance. I really expected nothing better from this bunch and yet I have been surprised by the performance despite the fact that I don't feel we are playing up to anywhere near our full potential. I seriously question the inclusion of Sterling who runs around like a fart in a thunderstorm until he finally loses the ball and then we are expected to feel sorry for him ,which I can't understand. We can look back at our progress and wonder how we got this far but don't forget there are others who would give their right arm to be in the semis and they were the teams that would supposedly leave us in their dust. Having been at Wembley on that glorious day in 1966 leaves me wondering if I will witness 2 World Cups for England in my lifetime and I wouldn't be surprised if this is our time to return to respectability in the eyes of the footballing world. Thanks Gareth.
Were you at Wembley for the 66 World Cup final mike? , I’m surprised you haven’t mentioned that before ? I’m
I also watched the '66 World Cup Final , a real treat, I saw it on a 18" black & white tv and got totally pissed up in the Giant Goram pub, Lawrence Weston on the night and woke up sharing my bed, fully dressed with a strange umbrella (not unfurled) and a horrendous hangover the next day, I won't mention my dear old mum. It was quite exciting but I still wonder where that brolly came from.
Dare to dream and remember is my motto Ashton and I guess you weren't at the game. P.S. You won first prize for spotting my "I was at the game" quote. Enjoy them this time out in Moscow and are any of our lads going to join with my quote?
I was only 5 , I do remember watching on Tv , i bviously didn’t appreciate the significance, I just took it for granted, I thought by now we would have won it a few more times.
Let’s hope we don’t upset the Croatian president later today - she looks scary........ https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=c...gB&biw=414&bih=660&dpr=3#imgrc=CHF6ZHeJ1_XTaM: https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=croatian president&rlz=1CDGOYI_enGB696GB696&hl=en-GB&prmd=inv&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiT3uye2JbcAhXmBsAKHWkDAVYQ_AUIESgB&biw=414&bih=660&dpr=3#imgrc=zIsd8YRhp0rzUM:
