Germany perhaps would have been a better showroom; there was some interest from clubs there before he signed. Also the rank and file clubs have considerably more money in the Bundesliga than the realistic potential buyers in Spain. But then he's over there with Pellegrini and knows the language etc; should be a good pluses, hopefully.

Haven't seen much of him but my gut instinct is that a 6ft7 centre back isn't going to do well in the PL

 

Brede Hangeland did pretty well. This guy is quite well proportion for 6 7", so he's not like a defensive Peter Crouch, and appears well coordinated if a little slow.

 

Hopefully somewhere between Peter Crouch and Fraser Forster then.
We have seen reports that he isn't quick, so couldn't play him and Bednarek together. Maybe drop Bertrand (if he is still with USA) in on the left of the three (Ron K did it) would counter his lack of pace.

 

He's a (capped) Danish International, was a member of their World Cup squad and a regular performer in his team that plays in the German League.

I'd take that experience over Jack (I don't head things or man-mark) Stephens anyday!

We conceded so many headed goals last season and constantly struggled against some pretty basic old school burley center forward types, so I very much welcome a more aerially dominate defender joining up.

Looks like we’re sticking to three at the back which usually helps to protect those much maligned pace less defenders

Mark Hughes talking about how new players make the rest of the team try harder. Says two we have already got in are level headed and used to being winners and playing in European matches so shouldn't be phased by the EPL.

 

It doesn't matter if he's not quick - so long as he is quick witted. CBs are rarely quick, I thought we'd covered this?

 

On the face of it he has the qualities we need. Would be interested to hear from anyone who watched the German leagues.

If the medical is due today I think this one needs a thread. It's been one we've been heavily linked with anyway.
