In the context of its use, it was pretentious and poncey, overloading the emotion into a football game.

This is much better from Ajax- Verdi's 'Hebrew Slaves' chorus' complete with decent Dutch oompah band unlike the Fowls Band scrubbers

Funny thing about the 1990 World Cup . . . . 4 of the 24 participating nations no longer exist.

Make the most of the 3pm ln a Saturday kick off for an England World Cup gamr. The last time England were involved in one was 52 years ago. For most on here it will be a new experience. One difference was in 1966 you couldn't watch it in the pubs as they shut at 3pm.

And, in the days when SKY are blamed for influencing things, it should be remembered that no World Cup has started or finished as late in July since 1966. The reason was the BBC were committed to broadcasting Wimbledon and The Open and said they couldn't handle the World Cup as well.

Could any country handle broadcasting three major sporting events simultaneously in 1966?

I doubt it. Though ITV could have broadcast more but that wasn't going to be allowed.

My 14 year old self would have liked to cement Anglo-Swedish relations with a bit of La Dolce Vita with this lady.
