    What do you think of Gareth Southgate? Plus when Ingerland win the World Cup should he be knighted?

    Answers above?

    • A last minute win against an average North African team.
    • The drubbing of a pub team.
    • Throwing the game against Belgium's reserves to be clever.
    • Failing to beat Colombia (without their best player) in 120 minutes.
    If that doesn't qualify Southgate for a knighthood, I don't know what does.

    Sir Gareth was actually on TV this evening giving examples of how different things are now;

    England have he highest score in a single game so far. :emoticon-0165-muscl
    England have won a penalty shoot-out. :emoticon-0169-dance

    Well spank me rosy. We thrashed a Sunday league team, and won a pot-luck shoot-out.
    And on every sports radio station they are playing that effing 'Three Lions' intro every five minutes.
    Bloody joke.

    Beating Sweden will be the first half decent result England will achieve - if they can do it.
    Sneaking through the easier half of the draw like the imposters we are.
    Belgium just knocked out Brazil - winning that group game against us didn't do them too much harm, did it.

    Gary Neville reckons (what is left of) Engerland have already got to the final.

    Like he knows anything.
    Make no mistake folks - if that England V Belgium group game had been for a single qualifying place, Sir Gareth and his lions would have been back in the UK over a week ago, tails between legs.

    Making the English people feel good again - after years of the Left and people like Diane Abbot saying that they are not allowed too.

    Anyone who doesn’t like the patriotic fevour being experienced by normal people really should leave IMO.

    I like the patriotic fervour being generated at present but I think it is being built on sand!

    My issues with Southgate

    1) He came through the ranks at Palarse and even captained them;
    2) His decision to take Delph rather than Shelvey or Wilshire has left us short of creativity in midfield;
    3) His refusal to make subs before the 80th minute even when players are injured infuriates me.. reminds me of Parky who had the same trait

    The results at this competition do not seem to reflect the adulation Southgate seems to be receiving... We have had one good result against (as Royston says) a pub team of international football and even then we only scored two goals from open football (one of which was a fluke) yet the pundits are overlooking this and making out that this team are world beaters?... really?.... if we beat Sweden then Croatia will beat us 2-0..yet the pundits are talking as if we are in the final already?.... whatever happened to managing the Nation's expectancy?

    I can’t believe people are having a go at Southgate. We have got to the QF of a World Cup for the first time in ages. He has instilled good team work and fighting qualities. He is calm. Don’t forget this squad was expected to do nothing. I don’t care what team he used to play for.

    I'm glad you said that and not me, Lardi. The England manager's job used to be one that all the top managers wanted. Brian Clough said he'd crawl on hands and knees to get the gig. Now nobody wants it, and you are left with Southgate by default, so under those circumstances I'd say he is beyond criticism, and even if Sweden win he won't deserve to get turnipped.

    Woke up this morning feeling fine :emoticon-0159-music

    So much cribbing & negativity about England - for all different motives.

    From Left wing anti patriotism (undeniable) to Caledonian jealousy :emoticon-0132-envy:

    100% true.

    No coincidence that the Irish & the Celtic fans are the most bitter.
