Totally agree on dropping Sterling no goal threat whatsoever dele and harry know each others game inside out its a no brainer to me. Something needs changing in midfield to create more chances up front.Southgate has done well so far but now is the time he needs to get ruthless and drop sterling for the teams sake.Rashford would be a far better option and goal threat and dele and him can rotate now and then to keep Sweden on the back foot. I would personally play Dof as left wingback as he will get more crosses into the box unlike young who keeps cutting onto his right and slowing all the attacks down .But I fear it will be the same old team to start again.
Luckily there isn't any set of fans in the Premier League who bang on about how their team won the World Cup...
Southgate on Dele You're doing a great job Gareth and we're all behind you, but you've just identified your own problem - just not added the bit about Sterling preventing that happening by filling that space pointlessly. C'mon man - be brave!! You know it makes sense
I've said Dele shouldn't start as he's unfit. However, if he does play, I agree he needs to take Sterling's place. Sweden will cede possession and defend deep, so Sterling's pace won't be much help. They're very tall and well organized, so it will be difficult to score set piece goals against them. Dele is a master at getting players going the wrong way in the box, and the big Swedish players aren't the quickest at changing direction.
From the BBC.... England have just the one serious injury concern ahead of today's quarter-final in Samara. Jamie Vardy picked up a groin problem against Colombia and has not trained with the team properly in the build-up.' Sorry BBC, you said 'serious' injury concern.....
Lots of very tense silent players in that tunnel. I'm with Terry Butcher - shouting, snarling, fists pumping - COME OOOONNNNNNNNNN.
2 England players needed to up their game today. Alli and Sterling. Neither looking as if they will be improved.....
