Is he not in the last year of his contract? I imagine that Bolton will want to get the best price for him now, as the suitors are falling away, so we may stand a fair chance. The question reminas will he want to come here? or will he wait for a big payday on a pre-contract agreement come January?
The thing is, negotiating is a bugger - the £6m Arsenal offered was to small, but the trumped-up £18m price is ludicrous. Anything between £8-10m, possibly with a bunch of add-ons involving call-ups and Champion's League qualification, sounds like a good deal to me, though.
It was in reference to my comment, I was going to remark on the overloaded comment above but its in reference to crouch while the topic is on Cahill. I didn't want to take the thread off topic is all so I removed my comment.
I hope this materialises, although I completely agree that we shouldn't be paying anywhere near the £18 mill. £12-13 mill at an absolute push.
A deal for Cahill involving money plus Bassong would do it for me. Bassong has never filled me with confidence tbh, whereas Cahill has far more potential and is already a good player
me too DB, but what would the chances be of that falling down due to wages or CL football? same old story.
From what I've seen of Mertersacker, I'd be worried about his ability to keep up with the pace of the league. I think he's going to get beaten time and time again by quick strikers with the ball at their feet. Cahill would be a good signing for us, but considering he's one year left on his contract I feel we shouldnt pay anything above 15 million. Somewhere in the 10-12 would be about right.
Sky Sports understands Bolton Wanderers and Tottenham Hotspur are locked in talks regarding a deal for Gary Cahill after Arsenal ended their interest in the defender. Spurs are understood to have offered Sebastien Bassong as part of the deal, but Bolton have other options to consider. Looks like your lot are in pole position to get him now... would much prefer cahil as a previous poster said hes just too slow, doesn't look as good as many make him out to be but thats just my opinion...
£8m + Bassong is a fair offer in my eyes. Good amount of money and Bassong will be one of the best CB's Bolton (with all due respect) could get.
