And what are the odds of Hargo being fit during that time? Toure will be out of the team for a month, Hargreaves would do well to be in the team for a month all season

Seems a pointless transfer imo. Midfield ain't really a position City are weak in.Funny thing is, when fit he'd be a definate starter for Utd.

The offer to play for free is something Hargreaves himself claimed, it has never been confirmed by anyone at the club has it? Anyone could make such a comment. Plus it's one thing making a desperate offer in the heat of the moment when trying to attempt to get a contract and actually doing it. Whether he really would have done it we will never know. Really can't base an opinion that Hargo is the best thing since sliced bread on something that for all we know could be just a PR ploy.

I don't think he would come out and say something like that just to make himself look good. I understand why he is doing it. I am guessing this is how Liverpool fans feel about Michael Owen.

Hargreaves obviously wants the chance to play in a successful side playing top level football in Europe. Good luck to him personally though I hope he fails in his mission to win silverware obviously.

I haven't come up with a conspiracy theory yet today, so here it goes.

Owen Hargreaves is still working for Fergie, he will join Man City, get hurt and collect his large paycheck. He will then buy his mates back at United, a nice dinner, after causing inner turmoil in the squad at Man City.

Anyways, hope this doesn't happen. Always thought Hargreaves was a pretty decent person, if he were to join Man City, he would just a broken Carlos Tevez.

You don't think people lie to make themselves look good? Please. It's never been confirmed so I wouldn't trust that. Whether he really would have played for free we have no way of knowing. Plus if it's true, what does it say about Hargreaves that even for free SAF didn't think he was worth it?

All those things you listed don't justify him moving to our bitter rivals. For three years he did not kick a ball while happily picking his 70k a week, despite this United supported him in all possible ways, his thanks is to spit the club in the face, if he really is moving to City. And someone is praising him for his "unbelievable loyalty" ? Guess Tevez was unbelievably loyal too

There is a difference when somebody tells a white lie to make themselves look good but to come out and risk ruining his reputation by lying about wanting to play for free is rubbish I'm afraid. I honestly believe him and he claimed Ferguson told him he didn't want to do that and Hargreaves then agreed.

Who cares if he has gone to City? In the end the club didn't want him so whos face is he spitting in? Us fans? Who are we to deny him a living or to stop his career from continuing? He gave us a lot of good memories in that double winning season and he has been unfortunate with injuries.

My guess is it will be the same story for him at City but goos luck to him anyway.

So you believe Hargreaves agreed that he doesn't want to play for free? Basically all you're saying he said it as nothing but words he didn't really mean. He was never going to play for free, even if it did happen as you say it was just an empty gesture, an offer he knew the club was never going to accept. It counts for zip in my book no matter how much PR he'll try to milk it for. Besides moving to City kind of proves he's not too concerned about his reputation.

Do you hold Tevez in such a high esteem too? Most things you use to defend OH apply to him as well. OH had plenty of other options where to play his football so it's not like it was an choice between City or retirement so that argument is out of the window. I don't see how you can defend his move. It's extremely disrespectful towards the fans and the club who supported him for years despite getting nothing in return. He's certainly not "incredibly loyal"

He said he told United he would pay for free but Ferguson said he wouldn't want him to do that and he agreed it wouldn't have been right. He realised that his career just wasn't meant to be, he asked if he could stay but in Ferguson's opinion he wasn't worth keeping on.

Why would moving to City harm his reputation? All he wants to do is play football and if he is offered football at the highest level who are we to say he shouldn't? Would you rather play Champions League football or fight relegation with West Brom?

Why would I hold Tevez in high esteem? Their situations or completely different. Tevez was a top player for us, was very important and him moving to City weakened us and strengthened a rival. Hargreaves wasn't needed anymore and he isn't significantly strengthening City. I don't think Ferguson will be too upset that he has gone to City. If that was the case he would have kept him.

There is a statue outside Old Trafford of a man who relegated us with City once. He was our best ever forward in many peoples opinion yet in the twilight of his career he sent us down. Did that matter to anybody at the end of the day? Well why should Hargreaves leaving to sit on City's bench?

I don't think any United player or Ferguson will begrudge him one last chance at the top. Regardless of who it is with.

    Great signing.

Both gets under your lots skin and bends the rules.

    Genius!

    - Guys none of you seemed to have picked up on the fact he would count as a British player which helps blend in with the regs that have come in. They sign him, pay him as he plays, whilst freeing up their options elsewhere.

Quite a clever bit of business realy.
