Reminded me of a few Sunday league games I had

 

The eight games played over the first two days of the tournament featured four red cards, three broken legs, a fractured ankle and some cracked ribs. The first match in England’s group, between Argentina and Bulgaria, was won by the south Americans thanks to what was described as a display of “hacking, tripping, pushing and any other dirty tricks”. After the game, in which the Spanish referee Juan Gardeazabal awarded 69 free-kicks at the rate of one every 78 seconds, the Bulgarian Todor Diev displayed a cut nose and legs decorated with stud marks and said Argentina were “like boxers”.

Talking about the game above, Sanchez who knocked out the Italian with a left hook was a son of an ex boxer, apparently the ref Aston didn't see it, or another punch later on, against a different player .

A little bit of trivia, the same referee went onto to invent the yellow and red cards, which was first used in the 1966 world cup.

 

Looked to me like he ignored it as the guy deserved it.

 

I suppose he couldn't say that, plus Chile were home.

The main reason for such a violent match was due to a series of really negative newspaper articles on how horrible Chile and it's people are from Italy. This caused counter newspaper articles by Chilian newspapers. Surprise surprise we got what we got. Nothing better than media hysteria to whip up neanderthal Nationalist behaviour.

 

ahhh this is the world cup with the league format right?
