He is not and never will be good enough.

Lacks concentration and focus in my view. 5th choice centre half behind brown, o'shea, bramble and turner.

For a player in the last year of contract, good business by Sunderland as will free up another large wage off the roster

Great how we say 1mil even though nobody can say its true but we decide to pull the club apart anyway.

Agreed. One like Richardson for me, who I always thought was going to be great, and sparkles every so often, but hasn't quite got there consistently.

Also agreed. Lots of hearsay about fees and wages but if it's undisclosed, none of us can do anything but guess. SSN reporting £4m is most likely to be true- and its the last year of contract so the board know he can sign for someone else for nothing at the end of the season- even if its £1m, that's better than £0m at the end of the year.

    I can't see us paying £4 million for anyone,let alone a defender!

He is worth every penny of a 4 million fee in my opinion...People who are slagging him off must have been watching a different player to the one I have been watching of late.

Antn Ferdinand will be a good buy for QPR in the EPL. He isnt a complete knacker by any shout and could be the difference between games that are tight amongst the other clubs in the bottom half.

I agree mate. I can live with him moving, on as we have plenty of cover at that position and we need to release funds for other areas too but AF is in no way a donkey.

Far from it and I think he could do a very good job for QPR.

Cant agree at all with you there mate. OK he's started the season OK but really? The referee got him off the hook at Liverpool when he was too easily moved off the flight of the ball IMO.

Consider £1m for Brown, £5m for O'Shea and dare I say it £6m for Enrique there really is no way Anton is worth £4m

I would feel far more comfortable about this if Turner and Bramble had shown any signs of getting back to their full potential, but as this hasn't been the case as yet, I do feel a tad concerned...However, I think that we, and everyone else with Sunderland at heart, would agree that a goal scorer is our top priority.

Haha! Well he seems to perform from time to time, but only for a few games a season- Portsmouth a few years back, and that derby goal, and Blackpool last year... But not consistent enough. Same for Anton for me. Wouldn't mind keeping both as squad players, but taking a fee for Anton since he's only got a year left seems wise to me, especially if it frees up the wages to get a striker in :)

I really like Anton. I really believe Brown and O'Shea will make him become a better play and fulfil his potential. He never spits his dummy out when he's not getting played and just gets on with it. He's always the last off the pitch clapping our fans at away games. I'll be very dissapointed if this is true.

Maybe there's something in the water our Manager's sip from. We just sold our best defender to Reading even though we don't need the money and now you're flogging a defender who seems to be a fans favourite.

By the way, I know you Mackems have a HUGE rivalry with Newkie but I'm wondering how big a rivalry you and Newcastle have with Middlesbrough or are they just an irrelevance?

    Speculation:
Sky Sports sources understand Sunderland defender Anton Ferdinand is in London in hold further talks with Queens Park Rangers.

I see another injury crisis! Brown and OShea aren't known for their lack of injuries, this just dosn't make sense? We need players and more importantly a squad. I'm not going to say much about £1M as it's laughable.

I don't really rate him. You Sunderland lads seem to think he's good though and you've seen a lot more of him than me. Am I wrong about him?

He does split opinion because of the odd mistakes he makes, but on his day he is a very capable defender and versatile as he can play anywhere across the back. He had a good end to last season and has come into this season in the same form. At £1m he's an absolute bargain and will undoubtedly improve your squad.
