All goalkeepers are capable of making mistakes, it's the frequency that we are talking about. Some mistakes are preventable.
Everyone's human so that's natural. The difference is he doesn't make many and is extremely commanding. He's exactly the type of keeper you need if you want to move to the next level.
Yeah he gets some of course, as I said he had improved. It's been so obvious he's not good enough since he joined. A few months of improvement with a 75mil CB in front of you isn't clouding my judgement though. He's just not good enough - it's that simple.
And Robbo coming in. And Coutinho leaving resulting in us having three workhorses in midfield. And TAA settling down. Edit; could also claim Moreno no longer being in the side helped. Maybe Matip too.
With respect, I think you and some others are missing the point here. It's not about stats. Because it's a team game individual performances are not easy to analyse from stats. Watching him, I've never felt confident that he has the quality we need. But even that isn't the crucial point at the moment: if we go into the season without another, quality keeper, and he hasn't the mental strength to overcome his difficulties, our entire season will be jeopardised. We should be on the up, and we shouldn't be taking such a risk. By all means retain and rehabilitate him, but putting the burden of our season on him isn't fair to him or anyone.
They're all arguments, yes. I'm not sure Karius not being good enough is an argument though? It's pretty clear to me. He just looks lost and way out his depth.
nailed it again You've the same impression as I have. We can look at a player and sense their reliabilty and talent fairly quickly. However knowing that lovren and karius are accidents waiting to happen doesn't mean the entire season and teams results will be down to them...
No, of course not - but some positions are more crucial than others from an individual point of view. By now, everyone on here knows I want to see entertaining football, but having to score 4 every game to ensure a win is taking its toll even on me.
2 months in isn't straight away What I was trying to say was if Karius had been our new keeper then he would have started the season. Klopp obviously had an idea of what he wanted but started the season with Mignolet thus giving him the chance to keep his starting position. If Karius was a straight replacement he wouldn't have done that.
@Zanjinho I know this isn't the time or place but just stumbled across this. You know the discussions we've had about whether it's ok to say Notts Forest as opposed to Nottingham. [The whole video is funny but check it from 5.30 to see the bit I'm drawing your attention to]
does it really matter if karius was bought to be no 1 or to complete? the situation is klopp made 2 calls so far to put the guy in.. based on training or based on the game plan klopp wants or whatever. It's clear that both men have been given chances. Its clear both men have made bad errors. Its also clear neither man has thrown masses of points away. Finally it is quite clear that klopp has said Karius was his no 1 following his reintroduction to the team last time. So does it really matter now? we are where we are.
I think you're splitting hairs here, jb. Klopp obviously intended Karius as his first choice. And, as we're in splitting hairs mode, you did say almost immediately in the post both Greez and I responded to. He played his first game around the end of September sometime. Not very far into the season.
I would agree. I think we concede more goals v top half sides as we leave the door wide open. the two players are very likely to throw a mistake in but so is vvd frankly. My thing is we just open the door flooding forward and expose them. Half lovren's problems seem to be panic. Half of karius problems seem to be concentration these won't change imo. But you can see less impact by screening them better.
I actually went back into my comment before posting to add 'almost' The reason being because I thought someone would pick up on 'immediately' and say that wouldn't happen.
