Not really for me. The 3 centre backs is actually an attacking move. We've been one of the more attacking teams in the tournament so far. It relies heavily on your three centre backs being comfortable bringing the ball into the midfield and stepping out. They've done that very well, particularly Maguire and Stones. I see no reason to change our approach as it has served us incredibly well.
My concern with Sweden would be that they are fantastic defensively. We could expend a lot of energy trying to break them down before getting caught later on. They are a very good side. I think it depends on England. If we score early then I think it change the whole dynamic and maybe take Sweden somewhere uncomfortable having to come out of their shell. Otherwise I would be fearful we'll suffer the same fate as their other opponents.
I think Sweden will be similar to the Colombia game in that we will be on the front foot initially. We will press, they will get men behind the ball. I am going for Sterling to score the first, a deflection, and then we will sit back and allow them to come forward. Lingard will score the second on the break with HK scoring at the death. You heard it here first, get your money on it.
We need an early goal to draw the Swede's out as they will be happy to sit in and defend, the longer it goes they will get more and more confident of snatching a winner. I'd drop Sterling for this one personally as I think Welbeck or Rashford give us more physicality while similar or more goal potential up top. Maybe even drop the second striker and go with RLC alongside Lingard and push Alli just off Kane.
As manc as the Gallaghers mate. He rocks up the the Earl with a big rain coat on wiggling his hands saying ‘suiunssshheeeiiiinee’.
Only because that’s where my Indonesian wife decided she wanted our holiday home. The season tickets at Old Trafford are paid for by my Company and passed on to clients who give us work. Although over the last few years they have been used more as a punishment for those that don’t. Great city to live in though.
I would 100% get rid of Sterling from this. Chances are going to be few and far between, we want that useless fckwit nowhere near it when it happens. If I was Gareth, I'd go for RLC and Alli alongside Hendo in midfield, then go with Lingard as the 10. He's by far and away the most equipped for that role and too lightweight for CM anyway. RLC adds a bit more "gimme the ball", Alli would then be more of the runner. Probably stick with Young for the experience and Rose has done sod all since he appeared. Stick the same back 3 but seriously encourage Walker to get forward a bit more. The other two seem to, not sure why Walker isn't. Picks Walks Stones Mags Trips Cheeks Hends Als Youngs Lings Kane. Win.
Think he is kept back as speedy, all purpose, cover as the fastest of the 3 ..Against Columnbia he did that a few times when we were pushing up
Sweden are a great defensive team. I can see us scoring to force them out of their comfort zone. Their problem is going forward - Without Zlatan they are ****. Solid everywhere else though.
