Precisely, the whole point of signing is to improve what you currently have.... I can see where PNE.. is coming from though.... we have not replaced the quality in (Nasri/Fab), that we have just lost...... Well we were mugged as regards the price we got for those 2.... So if we were to get like for like, we would have to break the bank! So let's not delude ourselves and think we will getting anything remotely better than what we have just lost! But point taken.

I rather think that Joe Cole is a 'replacement' for Park Chu-Young, who Lille have missed out on.
I hope they sign Kalou (have been linked with him) and then Hazard rumours should really start to erupt. :D

I think he's a replacement for Park, who was a replacement for Gervinho, who Arsenal also signed.

So the chances of them selling Arsenal another player, after they stole a player who was a replacement for a player Arsenal signed...seems remote!

Is is a shambles that we are reduced to this situation and someone has to be accountable for this embarassment of a situation. That said we have to look forward and right now panic buys are better than no buys so get people onboard. I wanted a top striker or even a good striker and Park is really something of an unknown despite his status in S.K.

Mertesackker will be a very welcome and rugged defensive addition and how could he be worse than Kos or Djourou, it;s fair to say Wenger has not got a clue what makes a decent centere half. Senderous,Djourou,Stepanovs,Cygan, & Squeaky are just some of the horror buys he has made in this position. It is pure chance that we have now a decent keeper and we waited years for Chesney to come along.

We conceded more goals from set pieces than any team last year in the prem i read today, With Tommy V hopefully fit and Per in the heart surely we can improve in this area.

Hazard would be the signing to excite the fans and boost the club but that is not going to happen especially after the way we seem to have nabbed Park in dubious fashion.

Isn't Park a striker though? Why would the replace a wing-forward with him?

Feel sorry for Lille though if they plan to replace Hazard with Joe Cole though <laugh>

I have not seen the left back hardly ever, but I am 100% sure that he is 100% better than jenkinson and alot better than gibbs. Those players arent good enough. Maybe one day, but that day is along way off imo.

Mertasacker will patner TV. They will do well together. Sure he isnt the best, but he is going to give us alot. Djourrou is a lost cause now imo. He had a good few months last season but its time for wenger to show this kid the door

I'm not so sure it was the 8-2 result that forced Wenger to buy, it may have been that they were planning to do their business late on for cheap deals.

He is right. But this is just the start I hope. We needed to buy a cb, a lb and a back up striker even before nas and fab left. To replace them we need to spend some big bucks obviously. But I like that wenger is addressing the critical needs at cb and lb. Having such a terrible lb really sucks. Hopefully this brazillian can be an improvement. Its hard to see him being worse than gibbs. WHo, even on the rare occasion that he is fit, is very average.

Djourou was never even close to good enough, thats what worries me the most about Arsene, his judgement seems really impaired at times particularly on defenders.

He has given up on djourrou with the signing of a new centre half imo. Kol is a really good 3rd choice. So I quite like how its going.

Only a few days ago he was saying the squad was stong enough and that he had bought replacements with many of his so called top players to return, the rubbish ones like Diaby he considers top class worryingly. I'd like to think that he has been shaken into action as otherwise he does not get the current problems of the club at all and is stubborn beyond reason.

The £20m price tag on Jagielka is ust madness. The guy has never played in the champions league and has only a handful of england caps (and we all know how bad england are).

Also he is 29 years old. I wouldnt pay over £12m for him. Its a joke.

So I am guessing replacing FAB/Nas is not of paramount importance during this transfer window.....

Think we will get M'vila for that... although tbf I don't really see the need for a DM since we already have Frimpong and Song.

i just can't believe that a man as smart as Wenger could not see how poor our squad was.
