I worry that Southgate is a bit of a people pleaser. Clearly the squad all like him and he wants to keep everybody sweet. But we’re at the business end of the tournament now and sterling has offered nothing.

 

Vardy was 100% the right sub to bring on when you have a lead to defend and are getting deeper and deeper (even though it didn't work. And we shouldn't have got so deep).

 

I noticed pre kick off that Kane looked quite nervous yet Sterling looked very cool and relaxed, thought he'd do ok.

Then his first two touches were utterly dire!

He was Colombia's main source of possession, the ball just bounces off him. He couldn't seriously complain if he was dropped for Rashford.

 

Thought Maguire, Stones, Pickford, Trippier and Kane had very good games.

When there’s three CBs in the formation, the likes of Young and Trippier have more freedom to attack and create from wide areas. A right footed LWB in this formation just doesn’t work, it’s not Young’s fault, he’s not a bad player but he just isn’t maximising the potential of the formation.

If it appeases your fears of me being bias, give Delph a go then. Just have a natural left footer who can run the channel and knock in some crosses to cause problems. We need to be quicker in the wide areas and someone cutting in all the time just ain’t helping.

Rashford deserves a shot. The balls he also had to take a penalty at his age shows he’s made of stern stuff, let alone the fact it was an excellent penalty. One of the country’s best prospects and Southgate should start unleashing him.

 

Sterling is a tricky one.

He is due a big game and think he can come good.

He isn't playing well it is true but I'm no sure on Rashford from the start.

He is very young.
