Stan was a big gambler, he and Don Givens would think nothing of putting 5k on a dog race.

    **** me was that stressful!

Clocked my Fitbit at 109 bpm!

Absolutely delighted to have gotten through that.

    - Colombia horrendous tactics all night head butting, falling over, niggling and even scuffing the penalty spot!
    - Ref out of his depth.
    - Very partisan crowd.
    - They equalize in injury time.
    - Second team taking penalties
    - First team to miss a penalty

    But we win!

We keep our heads and ****ing win!

Delighted and a big **** you to the Colombian national team and the Jocks supporting them <diva>

    My player ratings:

    - Pickford - 9. Had little to do all game and the odd half shot he covered well. Then that wonder save late on and the penalty save! Heroic stuff.
    - Trippier - 8. Was really solid and offered an excellent outlook going forward. Great penalty too!
    - Young - 7. Was good. Showed good strength and offered an experienced head and showed some good leadership too.
    - Walker - 6.5. Was okay.
    - Stones - 8. For the most part very solid. Having a very good world cup.
    - Maguire. 8.5. Was largely excellent. Strong, reads the game well and is excellent defensively in the air. Could maybe have made more heading up the other end. But being harsh. Great performance.
    - Henderson. 8. Real pity he missed that penalty because during the game time I thought he was brilliant. Strong, good leadership and the amount of times he won possession and stepped out and stopped their offensive passes and his offensive work was good too. Having an excellent world cup.
    - Alli. 6.5. Made a few good passes and excels at the dark arts which we actually needed to compete with them. Didn't look 100% fit. Not bad but not great. Has more to offer.
    - Lingard. 5.5. A few good moments but was bullied out of the game for the most part and a few times ran and gave the ball away. Not his best game under very difficult circumstances.
    - Sterling. 6. Had his bits of play that were good but still looks low on confidence. His control was sometimes wayward and doesn't look like scoring. Needs a goal to settle his nerves.
    - Kane - 9.5. World class performance. His penalty under massive pressure! And of course scored our first at the shootout to settle the team. He was strong, intelligent, did the clandestine stuff well, didn't react too badly to their violence, held the ball up well and was even creative at times. Led by example. Lethal.Fantastic performance!

    Subs:

    - Dier. 6.5 Difficult to criticise the penalty winner but in play he looked miles off the pace. He unsettled the team somewhat and his substitution welcomed Colombian pressure at the end. Needs game time. Legend now though!
    - Vardy. 6. Can't really remember anything of note. Not really fitting into the team atm.
    - Rashford. 7. For a young lad to score that penalty was great. Not a normal taker and was under extreme pressure. Fair play to him.

    - Southgate - 7. Mixed bag. Set up the team very well but I believe he should have brougth RLC on for Lingard at 70 mins. His physical presence and skill would have been a great help. The Vardy sub didn't work out and it ruined the formation. Dier coming on was a strange one. That sub unsettled the team, ruined the shape and invited Colombia on. Ended up with Dier and Henderson in the middle which means slow play and no creativity. However, whatever he said midway though half time of extra time I'd love to know. We were deflated and then we came out positively during the second half. Exercised his '96 demons! Very pleased for him and the team are definitely playing for him.

We'll be stronger for that performance and result.

    Pride restored!

That bit made me laugh <laugh>

But yeah agree with that post, not sure I'd give Alli 6.5 though, I thought he was poor. He doesn't look fit at all, so no fault of his own. Some questionable subs from Southgate, the Dier one as you mention changed the shape of the team and invited pressure, but Dier scored the winning pen, so his presence was a positive one in the end.

I think we'll have an easier game against Sweden to be honest. They didn't look good against Switzerland and there won't be any of the dirty tactics that Columbia tried.
