A good goal keeper should worth about 24 points in a season. None of our current GK worth more than 10 points.

I can't think of where our keepers lost us 10 points TBH.

I think the Points thing for keepers is just a myth personally.

If it was that much all arsenal would need is de gea and they would be in the top 4 instantly. thats just not the case.

my view is its the same as VVD. on his own he can't do it but they are all parts of a jigsaw.

when the whole system works it works. when one part fails the whole system fails.

mingolet slows everything down and won't come off his line. karius does both but each guy is likely to throw in goals.

Karius clearly suited klopps style more but when we looked there was literally one goal in a draw with spurs that could be laid at his feet last season for final 15 games. yet he cost us on the biggest stage.

When you are losing some keepers keep you in the game and possibly you come back to win or get a draw.Peter Schmeichel used to do this
a lot and even score goals:laugh:.

can you name any game more than spurs where karius cost us points?

our performances as a collective while going for cl dropped off but karius couldn't turn those into wins.

I'm not nerdy enough to itemise such things, but I honestly believe that if we'd had de Gea last season, ours and Utd's final position would have been comfortably reversed.

I agree that it’s part of the team rather than the individual. What we cannot measure is how much the players in front of the keeper compensate their position and thus our game plan because of a lack of confidence in the keeper. With Mignolet, this was huge.....with Karius it’s different but will become as big a problem eventually. Karius has concentration issues that the world now knows about. His timing as a sweeper is also questionable. Ming has different issues. Neither are anywhere near good enough for Liverpool imo.

    Karius is Mignolet twin brother.

I have no ****ing idea why you lot argue how many points lost/saved etc on games.

Where do you get these stats from?

What about defenders or midfield players who have contributed to the **** ups?

It's a funny one isn't it. If a player misses a penalty that would have won you the game 1-0, did they lose you that game or did the forwards who didn't score in open play? etc. etc.

<laugh> I know mate, I'm just trying to put the other side of the Karius debate as I feel some of the accusations against him are ludicrous <ok>

    Exactly jb.

I wasn't trying to come across argumentative.

Couple of scenarios I can think of.

If ball is played down wing and TAA for example should have not let his man cross and keeper flaps he gets blame not TAA.

Or Henderson has ball in midfield and should have played ball forward instead of usual sideways or back and they score, again keeper gets blame as he flaps or should have saved shot.

    excellent question

    22-Dec-17 Arsenal A 3-3 D - Mingolet disaster zone

    26-Dec-17 Swansea H 5-0 W
    30-Dec-17 Leicester H 2-1 W
    01-Jan-18 Burnely A 2-1 W
    14-Jan-18 man city H 4-3 W
22-Jan-18 Swansea A 0-1 L (no chance to save that goal imo)
    30-Jan-18 Huddersfield A 3-0 W
04-Feb-18 Tottenham H 2-2 D (wanyama goal but then karius saved pen and vvd gave pen away)
    11-Feb-18 Southampton A 2-0 W
    24-Feb-18 West Ham H 4-1 W
    03-Mar-18 Newcastle H 2-0 W
09-Mar-18 Man Utd A 1-2 L both goals down to taa and rashofrd exploiting zone. would a world calss keeper have stopped either?)
    17-Mar-18 Watford H 5-0 W
    31-Mar-18 C.Palace A 2-1 W
    07-Apr-18 Everton A 0-0 D can't blame karius here.
    14-Apr-18 Bournemouth H 3-0 W
21-Apr-18 West brom A 2-2 D. either goal down to karius?
    28-Apr-18 Stoke H 0-0 D - not karius fault?
06-May-18 Cheslea A 0-1 L was karius at fault for this goal?
    13-May-18 Brighton H 4-0 W

Realistically a keeper gives confidence by commanding his box, making saves etc. to maybe push on more and then create more goals or he might make a key save etc and doesn't throw goals in.

But realistically... I cannot identify many points i would put down to purely GK.

Arsenal. Clear thats Mingolet costing us points.

My view is this is all about the overall system. vvd improves it, Robertson improves it, taa needs to improve. the CMs improve it. and so forth and so on.

There are such fine margins here in the prem that a 10 points swing is the difference between 5th and 1st potentially.

Say look at lovren error v everton that gave pen away is that down to mingolet for not saving it? or vvd error v spurs that allowed lamela to flop about to win a second pen...

Its a team game and the GK just fits in, its very hard identify many cases where a gk increases points.

Mate you can be as argumentative as you like, it's what we're here for <laugh>

Goalkeepers are very isolated and any mistakes they make are seen as huge and glaring. Whatever other mistakes occur in the build up to a goal, the buck stops with the keeper, unlike others who go missing in games, he has nowhere to hide.
