Karius is a liability. He does not process the ability to focus when the stakes are at their highest. We will win nothing with him in goal. If true, this decision will come back to haunt us. That said, it looks like Klopp is playing his ‘only the right signing’ game - if he can’t get his primary targets, he will not pay for anyone else. Can’t say that I am unhappy about that....am just unhappy that we haven’t any options to buy a GK.
Good to see him recognise that he is a perfect fit for Liverpool, being there has taken his football to another level, which he wouldn't have seen if he was at another club. I've seen many a player leave Arsenal only to flop badly.
Get Mane sorted and our core is good. Firminho and Salah on LT contracts Keita, Fabhino in the middle VvD and probably Robertson at the back Just very weak at GK We lack decent cover up top = Shaqiri I reckon (whether you agree or not, my guess is that’s it plus a couple of the lads) We have a ton of midfielders to plug the other positions so reckon we’re sorted there unless we sell (e.g. lallana) CB’s - we’ll have Matip back and Lovren looks much better alongside VvD so can’t see us buying. We do lack good cover at LB unless you count Milner; which we can. So for me, top top priority is a GK. Then it’s sell to buy.
I think Salah was inevitable. The stuff he said in the press recently he has no intentions of leaving anytime soon. After Firmino got a new one, Salah and Mané must be next
I'm sure we will have options though, Klopp just won't spend silly money on keepers that are over priced and over rated. If Klopp feels that Karius is our No.1 then so be it. Klopps record of decision making on these matters is very good and if we trust him with outfield players then why shouldn't we trust him with a keeper
There are a lot more quality outfielders available than keepers. Karius simply isn't good enough, but everyone knows we're desperate for one so they will hike the price to ridiculous levels. Before the Neymar atrocity, sellers would have stuck another 10-15 mil onto the price, now they just double it. The fact that we won't pay extortionate prices doesn't mean we think Karius will do, just that we have no alternative.
