Whilst I thought that cup run was a distraction, and maybe just maybe the FA might look at the stupidity of putting the quarter final and two legged semi final in quick succession over the busiest period. I doubt it though but maybe they might and another club won’t go into mass fixture pileup. I can see it from Nick’s view we played a game that will stick in our heads for a long time like the Liverpool game before that. And I can see it from Ashtonred’s view we, would of all liked to get promoted, and play them twice a year. But then they would of played a full team and given us a harder time. So it works both ways beat the Man Utd team that was still worth 400 million or play against the one that treats teams like we would of been for GD. Me I would love the money and name of being a premier league team. But I love watching football and to me football is playing at 3pm on a Saturday afternoon. Not the way the Prem is where you can play anywhere between 7:45 on a Friday till 7:45 on a Monday night. I put up with Tuesday nights as they feel normal but kicking off 12:30 or 1pm on a Sunday is not for me.
That is a really good point ROD , I Agee with you completely, which kind of contradicts my entire post , whilst I want the money and name of PL football as well as playing the top teams in the country , I too would not enjoy game times all over the shop , I too enjoy Sat 3pm for City fix . Bit of a dilemma really as I can’t have both unfortunately , I suppose I’m undecided which ide prefer .
But when you consider that 12 months earlier he got a lot of stick for playing the kids against Hull in the same competition it would appear that he really can’t win!
You can’t please all the people all of the time, you are right which ever way they’d have gone they’d have upset some people.
Loads of people will look back and point at the cup run but it really wasn't the cause of our problems. Yes, they were difficult games, but in reality it was only 3 extra games v the Manchester clubs - we were relatively fine up until that point. I have no doubt it had a slight negative impact on league games around those fixtures but to suggest anything like it fully tired our players out is a nonsense. We could have coped fine if we had proper strength in depth and/or our manager actually stuck to the style of football which was getting us results. At least one of them ultimately failed.
