One of our problems now is the number of non British players and Managers in the Premier League and Championship They know our strengths, weaknesses and tactics, and fewer British players are playing at the top level
Absolutely agree, been saying it for years. Though with successful youth teams now maybe things are going to change, but the kids need their clubs to have faith and play them and as you say, the problem with that is money
Given that we had qualified I wonder if Southgate was looking to the future and giving the younger players the experience of a world cup game and benefiting from resting others and protecting them from injury? I think Southgate has his own plan, keeping a cool head and implementing it. If it proves lacking he will acknowledge that and adapt. Belgium fielded a weaker side too, although it was pretty impressive. I felt we were competitive and only lost by a superbly taken goal, although Pickford went with his wrong hand and the defense was a bit wanting at that moment. Hopefully it has bought a bit of realism into the camp and that from now on it's serious business. Personally I am enjoying the way England are playing compared to the recent past.
Agree pretty much with all of that. And it really is nice to actually enjoy watching England. Looking forward to Tuesday because, if nothing else, you just know that they won't go out for lack of trying and caring.
Why not use the VAR to stop France getting a pen that a) wasn't a pen and b) outside the area as it was.
Reading the comments on BBC they thought it was a pen. I am stil not so sure, to be fair I might be wrong, the Argie players didn't complain too much either. Seems out of the box to me mind.
