I've extracted some of the more salient points from today's MFW to add to this thread -'To describe a club like ours as a family can be a lazy cliché. But in many ways the comparison is apt. For the most part, we haven’t come together through friendship and choice; we’ve been thrown together by a common bond, and sometimes make uncomfortable bedfellows. Our focus is that shared bond, but we have different views on how it’s functioning, whether it’s giving us a fair share, how it should develop. We take umbrage at real or imagined slights and lose perspective in our dealings with each other. We fall out when we never should. #aintthatthetruth #guiltyascharged Ben Marshall looks to me a really good signing (if/when it’s confirmed). In terms of innate ability, he’s not on a par with the departed Josh Murphy; in terms of week in–week out effectiveness, he looks an improvement; and the trade has added substantially to our coffers. We’ve sold some good players, for good prices; some of those players (Alex Pritchard, Josh Murphy) had made clear they wanted to be elsewhere. That’s enabled our selling to be selective. Far from the ‘fire sale’ predicted by some, we’ve been able to rebuff bids for players we’ve cultivated and who want to ply their trade for Norwich City – notably Ben Godfrey and Jamal Lewis.' http://norwichcity.myfootballwriter...mes-but-bound-by-a-fierce-and-shared-passion/
He's not a Josh replacement as he's a totally different player. Josh is all about his pace. Marshall is all about the same kind of qualities Maddison had, but he plays Right Wing and slower. Plus nowhere near as good.
I'm not sure, but would a comparison with Snodgrass be more appropriate, scoring goals and providing assists while also tracking back to help the FB? I've only seen the Pink'un compilation, but he seems able to put in good crosses and score some cracking goals. I know compilations can exaggerate a player's skills, but he looks to have the ability to penetrate packed defences which we've lacked lately. That's my hope anyway.
Great article, JMF. I liked the Les Dawson quote at the end: "Families are like fudge. Mostly sweet, with a few nuts." It's all part of supporting a club like ours.
Interesting to see Ewan Chester's views on past transfers and his take on this season: “Some of the lads that came in last summer, you’ll see the benefit of having that season under their belt. I know last season there was a combination of some of the manager’s signings and some of the old school – so in fairness to Daniel Farke, that year could be invaluable to him as well. He now knows the players he can trust and he’s got players that have 40-plus games under their belt. The league won’t hold any surprises now. But the key for everyone at Norwich, including the supporters, is a good start." This is at the heart of any hope we have this season. Buendia is the only foreign player new to the club this season and the British players coming in will need less time to 'gel'. That should help the chances of a good start to the season and the confidence that brings. Yes we'll miss Madders and Murphy, but that may allow a new style of play supported by the new signings and that all important new striker. http://www.pinkun.com/norwich-city/...inkel-and-premier-league-relegation-1-5585267
Norwich City FC Introducing our third signing of the summer... please log in to view this image Finland striker Teemu Pukki is set to join City on a free transfer from July 1 http://norw.ch/WelcomePukki please log in to view this image
Head Coach Daniel Farke said: “I’m very pleased with this signing. We got the feeling that Teemu is a good fit to our ideas because he is a technical player with really smart movements. “We were speaking about how we need to make more runs in-behind and runs from deep and he’s a player who has the smart movements. “He also has lots of speed which is also important. Wherever he plays, he was always able to be there with goals and assists. “He’s a brilliant character as well so we are very pleased to have him with us.”
He's done well everywhere he's been - except Scotland which is perhaps the closest to the experience he'll have here. Interesting signing, I much prefer it to Rhodes! As a free transfer from Denmark, he's not going to be on massive wages. Hopefully that means we've still got the wages available for another striker as well.
We're up all night 'til the goals We're up all night to get goals We're up all night for good goals We're up all night to get Pukki
Probably good as all the seniors we seem to be signing are foreign and we need to keep some brits in for the rules lol
Excellent, things are progressing nicely. A couple more and maybe 2 for the yoof and we'll be done I think
Pukki's scoring record wasn't bad at Celtic - 7 goals in 12 starts and 14 sub appearances, but he struggled for form overall and found the adjustment difficult. That was 5 years ago, though, so he's much more experienced now. His rate of scoring has been very consistent throughout his senior career. He's quick and plays WL as well, which could be good. Seems good to me. And now Marshall as well! Suddenly it's all coming together with a full pre-season to get things working well.
