...which of course answers the question how, if the league was so wide open that year, Man Utd finished fifth.
Yeah, the team he was in charge of that season finished tenth. As self-owns go, that was a good one. Congratulations.
Come on, Croydon. Be fair. Mourinho wasn't with Chelsea at the end of the season, when they finished 10th. He left in December when they were in 16th, a point above the relegation zone.
exactly, all the big guns go down and you boys still do your spursy best to let the 5000/1 long shots take it
We were never in a position to stop them. When Mourinho got the boot we were in 5th place. Arsenal topped the table on New Years Day.
Sorry, what was that you said about failing to put the pressure on while bottling your title defence? Don't let facts get in the way of a Chelsea blowhard continuing to dig a hole for themselves...
NDombele Watch His loan to Lyon expired at 11:59 last night. So far there has not been an announcement from Lyon or Amiens about his status, which definitely isn't as stressful as it is mildly irritating...
Plea Watch With rumours that West Scam are reverting to their habit of showing an interest in every single one of our transfer targets approximately two weeks after our interest is first reported, Nice's new manager Patrick Vieira has confirmed that Alassane Plea has no-showed the first day of pre-season training. Well that's the version Vieira led with, although it might not be as simple as that... When arriving at the training ground for his first day as manager, neither Plea nor Mario Balotelli were anywhere to be found and Vieira quickly blurted to anyone who would listen (not a bright idea with football journalists...) that they weren't there - only to be informed that Plea was stuck somewhere else due to his airline being a steaming lump of Ryanair, although Balotelli's no-show is more easily explained as him being the twat he's always been. So while there may be a valid explanation for Plea's absence, Vieira slagging him off to L'Equipe bodes well for a potential Levying... Blatant Speculation Watch "Dan? Marcus Edwards posted a cryptic Instagram post. Can you write 300 words that say absolutely nothing to fill the daily blog quota?" - HITC's editor
Pavard Watch Stuttgarter Nachrichten are reporting that the club are refusing to sell him at any price. Over to you, Agent Hugo... Rabiot Watch France Football are reporting that we're negotiating for him, just like we have been for the past five transfer windows, although talkBALLS put a unique spin on it by suggesting he's being hounded out of France by fans enraged he refused a spot on Deschamps' standby list...
NDombele Watch Cue rampant speculation about this tweet from Lyon's Twitter feed... Based on the phrasing, as well as a couple of the responses to the French account, it seems to suggest that NDombele hasn't officially joined Lyon at the end of his loan (which expired over the weekend) - and if that is the case, and that "if" remains pretty goddamn big, that would mean a repeat of the Alderweireld situation is on the cards.
Who is on the Spurs shopping list for all those nations now out of the WC ?? If any, get them sorted Levy because only having Bale as the incoming is not being "brave" .
The hackeratti going today with CR7 to Juventus, If true, Bale returning to Spurs is now really dead (and Grealish is being "brave" ) .
It could be a very interesting summer once the WC is finally over. Zidane left Real in a similar way SAF did with Utd, in that they left just at the right time before players started declining due to age. It'd be pretty unthinkable but maybe Lopetegui has been charged with a complete revamp of Real and therefore the likes of Ronaldo AND Bale (amongst others) may need to be sold in order to fund moves for the new generation of galacticos. Today Real have been linked with a mega £250m move for Mbappe, while Hazard's name has regularly cropped up in links to them. Bale and Ronaldo out, Mbappe and Hazard in? Would make for a tantalising window if so.
Both will not go, and Madrid will not get Mbappe when PSG could wrench Neymar away from Barca. But Hazard to Madrid ?? How sad would that be for Chelsky and the PL ...
Meanwhile, in the replies to the tweet I posted a little earlier, the twateratti are bawling that Spurs shouldn't sign any Colombians at all based on their tactics last night. So are we supposed to also sell Davinson Sanchez because of that, or are they just being reactionary idiots?
