No he wasn’t. When the ball was released he was in his own half. You cannot be offside in your own half

Are you sure? He must have moved very quickly to be so far up the pitch after the ball was launched.

I must say that was my first thought but having watched it a few times, I am fairly sure he was over the halfway line.

Well, well, well Mexico will now have St. S. Korea day.

México to play Brazil, that is deserved for not beating Sweden.

England should seriously consider the bottom half of the draw.

True but we should remember Iceland from 2 years ago !

Sounds like Kane might start - but there will be 8 changes .

Lets hope he doesn't get injured!

Colombia now ahead which puts Japan and Senegal level on points, goal difference, goals scored, and their head to head result.

It has come down to the number of yellow cards.

Hopefully, the celebration is a sign of what is to come in the top half of the draw for Belgium.

If we lose to Colombia Southgate will be berated for the changes. It wasn´t a good game today, and that is an understatement.

On another note, Japan went through for good sporting behaviour thing but their finish to the game was anything but. https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/44649668 Good article by the BBC on it. I was watching the game and it was a joke.

Sadly not surprised but they will lose to Belgium anyway .

Hopefully with some key players back we will beat a strong technical Colombia side who will pose a strong threat .

Was in a pub in Kentish Town for the England game tonight. At half time a guy in a Luton shirt comes in. I overheard a conversation between him and someone else and he’s asked ‘who’s your rivals again?’ and he says ‘Watford, but they’re so far ahead’ and shrugs his shoulders. :emoticon-0102-bigsm

Odd when you think that in Japan honour is everything.
I would have preferred to see us top the group - there are no easy games in the world cup and to think coming second makes it easier is wrong.

Looking at the final 16 most matches could go either way. Maybe the only one I would bet on is a Belgium win - which probably curses them

In football you can only think about your next match. This is now against Colombia who are a far more dangerous outfit than Japan. To be thinking about what comes after that is nonsense - whether Brazil or not. If you have come to the stage of trying to avoid certain teams then you should not be there.

Totally agree with that. Anyway playing Brazil and so on is what the world cup should be about. You will get far more of a buzz playing Brazil than Panama.

Sweden and the Swiss would hardly be walk overs.

Both very solid defensive wise and had some good results in this competition.

Our record v Sweden is quite poor as they know our game well .

If Southgate really do expected to come second, which looking at his team choice hardly inspires an ardent desire to win, then it is a really negative approach and full of possible hidden pitfalls. I would have played to win this game and would have rotated my team but started with more first teamers....

How many times have we seen a PL side put out a weakened side just because it is only a cup game? I wonder if this thinking, clearly wrong for the world cup, has been carried through. Not quite the same thing as we knew it was not a one off. I would have preferred to have seen a further run out for the "first team" with second half subs. getting their bit of game time.
