Could be Senegal and Japan that go through, no guarantee that Colombia will qualify yet.

Personally I'd like us to finish 2nd, simply because that would set us up for a potential France England final and as I live in France that would be great.

No way to predict this world cup though. Switzerland /Sweden might be a harder game than if we played Brazil or Mexico.

I always think if you're going to win a tournament you're going to win it and it doesn't matter who you have to play on the way. However you cut it at some point you're going to have to play some top sides, I'd rather beat Belgium, win the group and progress on a high.

    Dan,
We lived in France for five years during which the rugby world cup was on and England played France.
We lived quite rurally in a small village of about 100 homes including the extended commune.
Nevertheless our Mayor acquired a giant TV and set it up in the Salle de Fetes and everyone was invited. He handed out free fine and beer and it was a great atmosphere lasting beyond the final whistle when England triumphed.
They certainly know how to party in France win or loose so I hope you get the final your after cos I can see us beating le Bleu again.

I’m of the opinion that come what may the tournament has been a success for us.

There’s a definite affinity with the team that’s lacked for years, the media access has been a big change and it’s kept the press behind the players, and seemingly relaxed them.

I’m excited about the next 8 years or so as we have so much young talent coming along. Seeing Leicester and Burnley players in the squads is fantastic, players are playing on merit and not name. Southgate has been a great figurehead with the press and managing expectations, and he’s come into his own as a tournament manager, I feel.

I’m just gonna enjoy tonight’s game, it’s a shame that we are both likely to have our foot off as it would have been good to gauge us against quality oppo in a match with something riding on it.

I kind of agree and kind of don't. I think at this stage the excitement is back. The players have endeared themselves to fans and Southgate has shown the world and his sceptics he can manage at world level. Still think we need a strong finish to cement that.

That said. If we **** the bed against an average nation like Mexico or Japan further on we look like bottlers. I haven't looked at our route so that could be impossible.

Lose to Columbia or someone of that ilk in a close game and all is forgiven. We're a young side and are showing a **** load of promise.

I wouldn't be disappointed if we beat Belgium and then go out in the second round mind. Even giving Belgium a game, not getting much and then go out in another close game. Just think we need to avoid a collapse and we've made a huge success of this tournament.

I’d go with that mate, like you say as and when we go out if it’s done without the squib I’ll accept. We have an outstanding chance in 2 years I truly believe that.

The only major question mark is around the defence imo, as they haven't been truly tested yet

    Agreed.

I think McGuire is a real find, Tarkowski and Keane are part of the future and they look very good.

It’s a shame we don’t have a Ferdinand type to drop in, someone like van Dijk or Varane, who can knock balls about from deep.

That would take us up another notch.

I copied this from a another forum. I didn't actually check the information! Now I have, and 3rd one man City is misleading. Man City won the 2nd division not the 1st..
All the others are true though

    Oh well...

I must be watching a different tackle to Danny Murphy, the defender clearly connects with the forward before reaching the ball which in my book is a penalty.
Can't believe VAR have decided otherwise.

I'm watching the same game as Danny mate.

Defo not a penalty. Can't believe VAR would've said otherwise either ;)

That ‘rather avoid columbia’ comment can be rescinded.

We will beat anyone from this group. I just want the 7pm kick off now as I’m in the Lakes Saturday night be better to not have to rush back <laugh>
