Would be content with a lb and a striker ( Santon and Maiga).

Would be happy if we signed a midfielder (to replace Barton) and another striker (lots of loan speciulations). Am hoping for a couple of surprises too. Love transfer deadline day, watch it on ssn every window, and am always left disappointed by tight arsed Mike. NOT THIS YEAR *shakes fist*!!!!!!!!

We've lost 4 first team players:
    Nolan
    Barton
    Jose
Routledge (who was on loan for half of last season)

So far IF Santon signs we will have 5 first team players in:
    Santon
    Marveux
    Obertan
    Ba
    Cabaye

And people may shoot me for this, but we have a few players coming through the youth system pushing to get in the first team.
    Feguson
    Vuckic
    Abeid
    Sammy

They have to get a chance sooner or later and judging by the last couple of games Pardew is prepared to do just that.
Some times we don't have to buy players in, Ashley brought in a canny few young players when he first took over.

It's never necessary to be unpleasant, I will turn the other cheek.

Gotta say I will be gutted if we don't sign a quick striker. Other than that I'm fairly happy so far. Santon, Roux and another would be an absolute dream

Cabaye - knew him from playing FIFA with Lille (due to the Gervinho links) and subsequently watching them on dodgy streams and thought he'd be great! Him and Balmont had a similar partnership to him and Tiote now, both sitting quite deep and protecting the back 4 whilst spraying balls forward. I think he'll really come into his own when Ben Arfa is back! Top, top signing!

Obertan - After living with 4 Manure fans for the past 2 years, I'd spent plenty of time enjoying his wayward touches and lack of confidence, so it was a bit of a kick in the minge when he arrived on Tyneside...Having said that, he has gotten slightly better with every game he has played and, much like Cabaye, once we have Ben Arfa back in the team, I think Obertan's pace and occasional cheeky flicks will compliment him perfectly...Could be great, but for £3m? its not a massive gamble either way! PLUS his desire and work rate has massively impressed me (was still back defending hard in the final minutes of the Fulham game - fair play!)

Marveaux - Came into the game a lot more against Scunthorpe after looking pretty rusty, though no one expected anything less. His performance was outshone by young Sammy's energy and desire so I'd like to see more from him before making a proper judgement, definite potential though!

Abeid - One we've known about for months. I missed all of pre-season 'cause I was away, but I've watched the games online and I'm well happy with both his performance and his gelling with our other young players (Vuckic in particular!) Future is looking bright!

    --------

As for the other potential signings I'm not sure about them other than Santon...My immediate reaction to this was "haha bullshit" then as it seems to becoming more and more likely, I genuinely can't believe what a coup this could be.

We're talking about someone bandied about as the future of Italian football, we're talking about someone with the potential to be the best LB we've had! We needed someone special to replace Enrique and this lad definitely could be just that.

This is on the same scale as signing Ben Arfa - its a risk, it might not pay off, but for £5m, I'd do it 10x over!

If we get Santon, Situ and Maiga in and no more outgoings it'll be a pretty good transfer window for a change.
