Game on - confident penalty by Moses for NIgeria, but wtf was Mascherano thinking dragging the forward to the ground during the corner - has he not been watching any other games where pens have been given for holding on?

Moses takes a very cool pen to put Nigeria level.

Naah. Easier route through any time. Momentum means nothing if your route includes Brazil, Germany, France, Portugal. If we can avoid them, the momentum can grow then.

    Very soft penalty for Nigerią.

With this level of referring Smith would get a hattrick of penalties each match.

Looked like a Nigerian was rugby tackled and kicked in the head in the box just before HT. Nothing given.

Mascherano should have been put out to grass long ago.

Just woke up to see the result ..................... 0-2 Aussies.
I guess l can't be too critical when we have no proven strikers.
I wonder if Cahill got on?
I predicted that we would only secure one draw for the competition ............... very sad indeed.
Oh well, the pain and the expectation is over.

Can only hope England keep it going.

Look on the bright side. They are playing France next. They won’t beat the French.

Got to feel for Nigeria - thought they played really well, and should've had another pen in the first half. Just not composed enough in front of goal.

If Argies get past France, and Portugal get past Uruguay, sets up a nice Messi v Ronaldo showdown.....

Thrilling finish, not to everybody’s liking to be sure but to disinterested observers such as myself the perfect ending, the two semi-moribund stiffs have creaked to life and maybe now there’s no stopping them, time will tell

I have to say, despite previous misgivings, the Russians seem to be hosting a pretty good World cup. Stadiums, organisation ( and seeming lack of hooligans ) all look like one of the best I remember.

Politics aside, so far so good..!

Yes, It's been very good. They have must have all their hooligans banged up in a Gulag somewhere.

Did you watch the Frankie Boyle shows leading up to the start of the World Cup? He was with some Ultras of one of the clubs (can't remember which one, maybe Spartak Moscow?) and they told him that they had all been warned to stay indoors when the tournament started....or else!! Needless to say, they seem to be heeding that advice <laugh>

My son has been having a fantastic time even though he’s been going to the Aussie games. He has found the locals to be very friendly and accomodating. He’s been enjoying the other matches in packed sports bars rather than fanzones which are not as much fun apparently.

He’s seen no sign of trouble anywhere and said that on one night, a group of Russian fans bought his group bottles of vodka as a thank you for supporting their country by turning up.

They also told the group they had been educated on how to interact with visitors - eg smiling when talking was not disrepectful.

End result, he’s travelling from Moscow to St Petersburg tomorrow, and will bid farewell to Russia next week and head to UK to find work.

Anyone know of any sport media opportunities?
