IF (yes I know) there is a British interested party they have at least been adhering to the NDA, while the Aussies have been leaking like sieves. Their whole approach looks shoddy, shades of Michael Knighton at ManU, and their 5-year plan is extremely silly, not to mention risking plunging the club into turmoil if it doesn't work. The alternative atm is death by 1000 cuts if Roland stays. The better option looks like waiting until Roland sees sense and sets a reasonable price which will attract genuine interest from realistic buyers.
The considerable downside of that option is that RD has shown no sign of seeing sense for over 4 years. And...we go into next season being run on a shoestring.
That's what reminded me of Michael Knighton playing keepie-uppie at Old TRafford when he made the fake claim of being able to buy ManU. In the end he bought Carlisle and it took the fans several tortuous years to get rid of him.
The longer RD is our owner the more money he loses. Thus the bigger the difference becomes between the true value of the Club and the value + his losses, which is the price he seems to be asking potential buyers to pay. He may well be stubborn enough to go to his grave before taking a big self-inflicted loss on a sale. We could be looking at a decade or more in the lower leagues on a pittance of a budget playing in front of a half closed stadium - with the ever present worry that just one or two more poor seasons will see us become a non-league Club. 'Financial security' is the last barricade a few apologists are still hiding behind. But at present we do not have financial security as most people would understand it. We have a managed decline into a lower position and a smaller fan base than ever before in our history.
I'd be very surprised if parts of the stadium are not closed in the coming season. Presumably the reason for it not happening yet is that when S/T's went on sale Roland expected the Aussies to be owning the club by now.
I think their 5 year plan is how long it'll take them to complete the takeover.. 'Death by 1000 cuts if Roland stays'...Well said, that's the sad truth if things stay as they are.
Is all sweetness and light on here now? I have just invested in a gross of "Free Royston" tee shirts and fear I have done my dough!!! #I'mspartacus
The phrase that spoke volumes for me today is "the money has been found for a pre season tour". Desperate stuff. 1984 all over again.
In all fairness Sunley did spend money on good players back then. Maybe the British group have had a strict NDA in place all this time, and will come in last minute, a bit like Sunley did... Yes I know I'm grasping at straws.
Another thing Surely the aussies want the deal wrapped up by a certain date, if they were to take over a couple of weeks before the season starts were almost writing off next season.
