He'll be a huge loss imo, he's kept us up the last 2 seasons. Don't think £4 million covers the increased risk in us not managing it a 3rd season. Not convinced either Lumley or Ingram are ready yet.
i think his true price should be 8 million i think hes england class but we have after all a completely useless manager so i guess its only too be expected
Cardiff of all teams. Oh well. Steve prepares us for few signings and Smithies off. Do hope we can get a good defender or two and maybe even a striker?!
If it's £4 mill then I think it's about the market value for a good Championship goalkeeper. Also understand that we as QPR fans feel he is worth far more than that. For our team he is worth more, £4 mill will not be enough to strenghten overall with the loss of Smithies. It's sad, but this is where we are as a club at the moment unfortunately. Definitely not a step in the right direction. Gutted loosing our best player.
Funny how things come back to haunt you. I remember when they got relegated and took Caulker off them relatively cheaply (so we thought).
I am not surised that we may lose Smithies as we have good young talent in this area. However, I am surprised at the potential low budget price. Could this be related to a Release Clause? Does anyone have such insights?
There's no reliable news on the actual fee yet. Personally I don't see why we would sell him for anything less than double the speculated money if he's headed for a PL club and given it is so early in the summer's transfer activity. A big loss in any event - he undoubtedly kept us up season before last.
I am not surprised but £4M is cheap, should be at least double that although I am not sure whether Cardiff is the right move for him, does he really want to be involved in a relegation fight. Having said that, he deserves and is good enough to be playing Premiership football and who knows, if he had been playing in the Premiership last season he may had sneaked into the England squad.
Watford are reportedly interested in signing West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Ben Foster this summer. The Baggies' asking price for the 35-year-old stopper would be around £10m, according to The Sun. Well it's the Sun but if it's close Smithies is definitely worth a lot more than 4. When was the last time we got 'good' money for a player? Samba?
Until confirmed this is speculation, however if true then whoever deals with our transfers is a muppet. Smithies is worth a lot more than £4m. I am sure TF will come out with another training ground or stadium tweet shortly to appease the fans.
I'm not one to stand in the way of a player progressing, and quite frankly Smithies deserves his opportunity to play in the Prem. I wish him all the best. I'm sure either Ingram or Lumley can step up and lay claim to the number 1 jersey. Should be a decent battle as to who gets it. Think the fee would be best served investing in a couple of CBs and a striker.
He’s been one of our best players for the last couple of seasons and without him we may have gone down. It’s a disaster and 4m is way too cheap. We seem to be naive in the transfer market - we need to take some learnings from Daniel Levy.
