Right up to this point, Arsenal were still very much in the game. They came out strong for the start of the second half, created a few chances. Yes they weren't dominant, yes they looked kind of shaky at times. Seeing Theo & Jenkinson having a go at each other on the pitch didn't help. RvP missing the penalty was shocking (he's only missed 3 in his career I believe now - his very first, one last season possibly, and this one). But of the first 3 Man Utd goals, the first was a mess, the second a great piece of skill (though there should have been closing down) and the 3rd unstoppable. The changing point seemed to be bringing Oxo on for Coquelin. This changed the game, made Arsenal FAR FAR too open and the front 4 of Man Utd. were just too good. Arsenal were poor. I thought Arshavin played well creatively, Theo did well, Chesney you couldn't fault for more than perhaps one goal. Coquelin put it about a bit. The rest were below par, but Man Utd. were scintilating. They clicked and played fantastically. For me, everything changed with that one substitution. Tactical suicide. It was a risk that Arsene took, and it didn't pay off one bit.
Should have been 12-4. The 1st goal summed it up for me. Welbeck, not exactly Drogba in the muscle stakes, gets ahead of 3 defenders to head the ball in.
It wasn't really as simple as that. Our defence was a shambles, Jenkinson was way out of his depth, Djourou was woeful and Traore not up to the job. We should have brought in quality defenders much sooner, so Wenger brought it all on himself.
I still really rate Jenkinson. He's a great young player. And one hell of a gooner. In the same way that Frimpong will always care that bit more than Wilshere, Carl will care more than Theo. Wilshere is a hammer, Walcott is a Liverpool fan. I still like Theo for the record but we should not turn on Carl for doing that, we need the shouters in the team and it appears that we're finding them.
Tuffnell is right. However give Jenks time - he might come good. We need a Santos, Cahill and Samba...... Then we could use Arteta - and a winger ( have we signed one - lets hope so). Arshavin seems to know what to do - but just can't execute it any more. His head has been ****ed up.
How can you possibly rate Jenkinson ? what has he done for you to rate him ? He looks like he doesn't have a bloody clue how to play positionally.
Because I watched him play in games that wasn't the 8-2 thrashing on Sunday. Where he has looked extremely impressive.
forgot to say RVP's penalty was a joke - my 5 year old grandsons take a better shot than that. In fact their mothers are probably better than he was.
Penalties can be classified in 2 main types IMO: positional (incl. fakes) and power. Van Persie chose the first... there's a thin line between a good penalty and a '****' penalty in these cases. If the GK would choose the wrong side it would have been a good penalty... People who criticize penalties generally don't have a clue.
RVP's free kicks were muck all last season, whens the last time he cracked one in? I rate him as a terrific ball striker but his dead ball play has been mediocre for some time from free kicks. That said he is not the reason we got tanked, Wenger is and lads like Jenkinson should not be shipping the blame, the bucks stops with a muppet who sends out a team like that and tries to play attacking football. Madness, full on lunancy what he attmepted and we were rightly tanked. Man U may have done us a big favour though.
He didn't have much choice with Frimpong and Song suspended, Vermaelen, Sagna and Gibbs out. That's the top 3 defensive players at the club missing, in addition to the others. What a mess that team was. IMO only Chesney, RvP & Theo from that lineup should be in a starting 11. Perhaps Arshavin on the basis of his performance. That's it.
And the fact he had no choice was entirely his own fault, sackable behaviour the way he has allowed the team to become so short, left back position having to play best right back in the league there is nothing short of shambolic, and has happened several times now. Why he played such a high line though for me was suicidal.
gent. IMO it was weak and poor. Not even close to the woodwork. Any keeper going that side would have saved it. It 'rolled' along the ground making it even slower. I've watched footie for 50 years - so have seen one or two. Types - you blast them. You position inside the post. You hesitate (naughty). You look to shoot one side then go the other. You hit into the top either side. So much for your 2 types.
What he was reffering to was Wengers tactical ineptness, which i agree to 100% What the game showed was how deluded he really is. What does he think we are the second coming of Brazil? We have lost 2 of our best attacking players and he goes and attacks Man U at home when we have a depleted defence? Why not shore up the defence and play an extra defensive mid? Why not play counter-attack using the pace of Walcott and OXO? This scoreline was coming and the blame soley lies on Wenger for having such a pants bench!
I see much weaker and more to the center penalties called "good", that is what i am saying. If the GK hadn't guessed the side we wouldn't call it a bad penalty.
Agree 100% It was a pants penalty. No power, no elevation, no placement. ****, even the local dog with 3 legs could take a better penalty. The pressure got to RVP plain and simple.
if it had gone in - the result would NOT have been so humiliating. Maybe only 5-2 or 5-3. (giggle). ManU were allowed to look awesome. We were lost at sea.
???? I am at a loss here. He was kack when he came on at the Emirates against Udinese, he was mediocre against Liverpool, he was nothing special in the 2nd leg against Udinese and he looked like a bad semi pro against Man U.
