    I stand corrected.

As you leave for the pub utter this phrase & make for a swift exit.

    “See you on Saturday”

If Southgates going to take it seriously, and you can be ****ing certain he will be, and he'll be expecting the team he puts out to do the same, then the very least is we do the same as fans, so I salute you Den.

Ben's clearly just a glory hunter, probably a jock, or at the very least coulda played for them.

If he wasn't such a chubber.

Thursday is definitely not irrelevant. If we fail to win the group, and assuming we get thru the round of 16, I will have to miss the QF on the Saturday.

I've sent Gareth an email to let him know so I fully expect maximum effort.

    England 6: 1 over Panama
    "I'm getting so scared"
England has provided a highlight of the tournament against Panama - again. The team masters standards masterfully, hardly anyone comes more often behind the enemy defense. But does that work against stronger ones?

When the English national team celebrated their 2-0, Gabriel Gomez came up with an idea. Was not there this rule, which says that a team must be in the field during the cheering and not next to it, as now the Englishmen? So Gabriel Gómez grabbed the ball and started to run. He waved his Panamanian team-mates up, placed the ball at the kick-off point and started playing. Only he overlooked two things: First, England's goalkeeper had remained unlike his teammates on the lawn. Second, this rule does not exist.

Only when England was back, the referee released the ball. To play eleven against the English goalkeeper would probably have been the only option for the Panamanians not to lose this game. That was due to the weak outsider, but also to an English team, which was at times intoxicating on their own game.

World Cup 2018: Everything to Rules

"I enjoy the football we play," said triple scorer Harry Kane in his usual monotonous manner. The rival coach, Hernan Gómez, of all people swarmed. He used adjectives like "beautiful" and "spectacular" when asked about the English team. At half-time, at the score of 0: 5, he had gone to England's national coach Gareth Southgate and told him: "I'm starting to get scared."

It is unmistakable that the national team benefits from the influence of the top coaches working in the Premier League . A total of five professionals were in the English starting eleven, who work in the Premier League under the ball ownership coach Pep Guardiola (Manchester City) and Mauricio Pochettino (Tottenham Hotspur). If Dele Alli had not been injured for injury, it would have been six. Football made in the Premier League.

Southgate, in office since fall 2016, does not try to duplicate the style of play of a particular team. His team does not take on the positional game Citys, it does not press as intense and continuous as Jürgen Klopps Liverpool. Southgate picked out the raisins and focused on a few aspects. The mastered his team for masterly.

6: 1: England dreams and Panama celebrates
The three most important improvements under Southgate :

    • Depth runs: As soon as there is no adversary pressure, the gaze immediately goes into the depths. The idea: If the player is not pressed on the ball, the pass should follow in the back of the opposing defense. Three things are important: The pass itself (timing and technique must be right), the deep run (timely start, high speed), and opening the room.

In the latter case, especially against Raheem Sterling and Ruben Loftus-Cheek Panama tried to attract the attention of the defenders and then lure them into the midfield. As soon as the defender started the pursuit, the deep sprint started. This was achieved before the 2: 0, when the strong Jesse Lingard started and was fouled.
    • The organization without the ball: In2014, England also retired in the preliminary round, because after losing some players some players in the direction of the ball ran, but most back into their own field half. What was missing was a common plan . Against Panama, the Southgate team secured their attacks by forming up to five players a security ring, which moved closed. Also in the pressing England under Southgate has become better.
    • Standards : After the game, the Panamanian and English players ran through the mixed zone, Panama's pros looked just like footballers, but the English looked huge, childlike faces in the bodies of model athletes. This difference could also be observed on the pitch, especially at standards. It was no coincidence that four of the six goals came after dormant balls, and when you add the match against Tunisia, there are even six out of eight. "We are working very hard on it," Kane said after the game about the English standards. Coach Southgate called her "a real weapon."

Not only does England benefit from athletic advantages, but the team has several clever plans: corners get goalkeepers free, and the variant of the free-kick that led to 4-0 is a candidate for the tournament's most beautiful goal: from one position, out of the 99 out of 100 teams, either the shot on goal or the high ball in the penalty area would try, England started a combination over four stations, before John Stones hit the gate. The movements of several players were coordinated. A gate like a work of art.
These strengths will not completely disappear even against better opponents. Not for nothing the English record against top teams is a pretty good one. At the same time, it will only become apparent to heavyweights how the team reacts when it is pressed or how it deals with setbacks. The latter also applies to coach Southgate.

Answers could already be delivered next Thursday. Then England and Belgium meet in the group final (20 clock, live ticker SPIEGEL ONLINE). England's goal difference is 8: 2, which is the Belgian? 8: 2nd It could be the most entertaining game of the World Cup.
