I'm not too keen on us even getting him on loan. This MFW article says it all - It’s all about recruitment, recruitment, recruitment. Good luck Mr Webber! http://norwichcity.myfootballwriter...-recruitment-recruitment-good-luck-mr-webber/
As something of an acknowledgement of the fact we're both stuck with overpaid players who don't want to/ can't perform in their current surroundings. Why not a one season swap deal. Naismith for Rhodes? It could be equally as good or terrible for each club. Bah!
So with pre-season starting on Monday, wouldn't it be good to have all the newbies starting at the same time as everyone else. Have we signed a striker yet? Bah!
I also have mixed feelings, especially if we're going to play the way we did last season. Rhodes is a poacher. He won't do the work off the ball that a Jerome would do, but if the wide players and playmakers get the ball to him in the box he will score goals. Five goals in 31 appearances last season sounds bad, but 14 of those were as sub. As long as he is not the only striker we bring in, I think it could be a good move. The latest rumour is one I would definitely like to see happen: http://www.pinkun.com/norwich-city/liverpool-winger-harry-wilson-linked-with-canaries-loan-1-5574717 Use your Liverpool connections SW! Edit: According to Vital Norwich, Rhodes, Wilson and Marshall are the three Brit targets Alan Nixon said the club is working hard on: "These are presumably the three British player deals that Nixon referred to in a tweet last week, that he said Norwich were looking to complete." https://norwich.vitalfootball.co.uk/norwich-working-hard-on-striker-and-winger-deals/
Could Mo Lit be on his way??? http://www.eveningnews24.co.uk/spor...on-brink-of-permanent-canaries-move-1-5574714
I'll be pleased if he does. He's a highly skilled player who could prove to be a key player in a post Maddison team. He won't need time to settle in either. Meanwhile, Wildschut could be moving in the opposite direction: http://the72.co.uk/106684/wigan-trying-sign-norwich-winger-sunderland-winger/
Afraid not, Jedi, as it looks like a loan deal. In a way, we get some money back if we take Rhodes on loan as Wednesday look to save wages. Swings and roundabouts I suppose.
I, for one, am very happy with the Leitner deal. Am sure he is a very good player who had lost his way a little, with Tuschel not giving him a chance. Expect him to be our mid-field General (not the Melchett type) next season.
I know the Archant hacks (MB/PD /DDF) were very impressed by some of Leitner’s play last season, so I’m with GE!!!
I'm fairly happy with Leitner, still only 25 with a great pedigree. I doubt he cost more than a million.
When at Borussia Dortmund he was valued by TransferMarkt at £4.5, but that has since dropped to £675k. Given his age and pedigree, £1m to £1.5m sounds about right. There seems little risk as he did well in his 12 games for us before the injury.
He looked classy at times with great vision and passing. Hope he can be a major player for us if he can stand the rigours of a full Championship season.
With respect to Lietner, it's an OK deal. Depending on how much; its costing us, how much he plays and if he can convert a few good moments in to consistent championship performances. He didn't do enough last season for me to be excited by this signing, but at least we know he has some quality and should be at least a little championship ready for last years experience. Bah!
Given our restricted budget, the likelihood of exciting signings is not all that great. DF knew Leitner from his Dortmund days and and he's had 12 games so, as with Srbeny, he won't need time to settle in. All of this helps to have a settled squad as the season starts. Rhodes, Marshall, and Wilson all have Championship experience as well if any or all of them come. Last season half the squad were new and/or inexperienced and we struggled as a result. Hopefully we can get off to a better start this time.
