so... to sum it up... we scored two penalties, one worldie, one good header, a rebound and a fluke and were fast asleep for the one we conceded. As has been said.... feet firmly fixed..
That's the problem..The pundits have to go OTT, then when we get 'dumped on' everyone gets depressed. Instead of saying we have a chance, some of them Ian Wright and Gary Neville seem to think our names on the trophy. I hope so, but come on, get real. Its England..
We have always shown we can compete against the big teams. There had been this unexplainable problem with tournaments, which now seems to have gone away. I think our players are a lot better than many give them credit for, maybe in paper not quite up to the likes of Spain, Germany, France and Brazil, but anything can happen on the day and if we do end up failing to bring the cup home, at least we turned up for the tournament for a change. Que epic collapse against Belgium and whimp out at the round of 16
At least we looked like a team that knows what they we are doing, particularly on set pieces. Two years ago we were a team which had Harry Kane taking corners ffs.
Managed to find a café that is showing the Belgium game even though is starts at 2am here. Have to say the screen yesterday was huge, and a really good picture, it was like watching in a cinema. Pity the Vietnamese seem to be supporting Panama, but quieten them down with this lunatic jumping around when we scored.
Did he hell. I mean why would you want 6 foot 2 prem top scorer in the box when you have Wayne Rooney to nod em home.
He still never picked Harry when he was the best defender in the Premier when he was at City, yet two half games for Leicester he was deemed good enough, we have to win World Cup for me to nod at Gareth achieving history.
You could say the same for other areas that are mostly fields and sheep. But the Midlands is a massive extended conurbation stretching from Telford to Leicester and Birmingham to Chesterfield, with a strong footballing pedigree - and that whole area is not represented.
A lot of them don't qualify for England and a large proprtion of the population are from cultures where football is not a big deal. Surprised to see how few are from the North East, which used to throw up footballers on a regular basis.
