I read a lot about Asoro and Maja on here, bit of a forgotten man on here these days. Could he be the lad to do a Marco at this level ?
I checked up about him the other day, everything is tickety boo with his recovery just waiting it out. No set backs or niggles or anything but I don't think he's running yet although it probably won't be long now. I think they expect him to miss roughly the first third of the season.
Got a feeling he will be one who never fully recovers from his injuries. Hope I'm wrong like, love Watmore, me.
He'd piss this league providing he doesn't get a recurrence. Still a long time from being fit apparently.
One of several who's confirmed they will be staying. Injury may have something to do with that. Fingers crossed he comes back better than ever.
Plus he surely feels like he owes the club and fans. Sunderland are not necessarily going to walk the league but provided you're in and amongst the top 10 by November/ December time he's the kind of player that can spark a great back half of the season - he should stroll through this league.
A lot of our players should really owe us something. Sadly it feels like they think we still owe them. I don't often moan about modern footballers but I think the way they're contracted needs an overhaul. They have far too much power.
That's showbiz and entertainment in general and that makes sense as they're not just the employees, they're the product that goes to market and brings in the money. The amount they're paid shouldn't be a problem for anyone. They're paid what they're worth in well run teams. Generally it's a meritocracy. The problem lies in the terms of their contracts. They have far too much security and way too little motivation. We'd be far better off heavily insentivising contracts and chopping base salaries down. Not to mention... Clubs should have the ability to cut ties if KPIs aren't met.
Agree mostly. Although I can’t see how players should be paid more than their manager. Don’t get that at all as it’s always the manager who is sacked or blamed if things aren’t going well and the players get very little retribution for being ****e!! As for the kpi comment. How good would it be if it was like that?
I seem to recall that Niall, when he was chairman, was quoted as saying that SAFC players were on 'highly incentivised' contracts. 'Our incentive package is about the best in the League' he was reported to have said. I suspect that this was an approach that fell by the wayside after he was removed from The Chair.
He paid Anton Ferdinand 50 grand a week after paying a transfer fee of 8m for him. I wouldn't hold him up as a shrewd picture of restraint.
