As expected I fell asleep but fortunately I didn’t miss any goals. I thought we were very good in the first half against comically **** opposition. The second half was the time to have a nap.
Kane isn't a midfielder where he takes the game from the scruff of the neck. He's a classic striker..where he pops up when it counts. He can be anonymous in many games for Spurs too but then he just pops up to score. It's what he does, it's his job and he's world class at it. He's no Ronaldo or Messi who gets the ball in the middle and can do some magic. Even at Spurs it's Eriksen waving the wand.
Just Quentin being Quentin ... best not take him seriously ... he hasn't been to a live match in a decade
Great pens though tbf. Anyone else thinking after he smashed the second in, I wonder if he'll be that confident when we're in the shoot out vs Germany?
Cracking pens ... but only Quentin would have such inadequate footballing nous to label Harold the best striker in the world on what we have seen of this world cup
He put them away didn't he? Oozing confidence...putting the second one in the same place was him toying with the keeper. Enjoy him, youve all got him for the next few weeks...enjoy what it feels like to have Kane playing for your team
They were great penalties tbf, keeper wouldn't have saved it had he guessed right. The thought of a shootout against Germany hadn't entered my mind tbh, don't think we'd make extra time never mind get to penalties against them.
That was probably Southgate's instructions as well. The job was done, 30°+ degrees heat and high humidity. There was no need for the same intensity.
Hangover and sunburn... Worth it though after yesterday's result. Early doors and the opposition have hardly been amazing but England do actually look like a good unit, been a while since I've looked at an England side and not really seen any massive weaknesses. Harry ain't even been playing at 100% yet has 5 goals in 2 games. Trippier and Lingard been superb, that strike by Lingard gets better and better everytime you watch it while Trippier has been our standout player over the two games so far. Be interesting to see how we line up for Belgium, go strong and try and keep winning mentality or rotate and not worry about result to keep key players fresh for the next round?
Wherever England finish in the group, they will play one of Japan, Senegal or Columbia, depending on how they finish in Group H. England AND Belgium, can and should beat all three of those, But this being football, you never know. If Japan beat Poland, they top the group. Poland have looked Pony so far and are out, so will they go for it? Then there is Senegal v Columbia....my money is on Columbia beating Senegal, Poland and Japan drawing, Columbia topping the group and Japan finishing second. So I think if England beat Belgium they will play Japan, if they dont ,they will be playing Columbia. I would much rather play Japan to be honest. They beat Columbia, but only just, and they played against 10 men for 85 minutes.
Yeah Young ain't been terrible but a right-footer at LWB ain't ideal, seems to slow the play too much. If Rose is 100% fit I'd give him a start, if there's doubts over his fitness due to the season he's had then give Delph a go. I'd also give Rashford a start over Sterling, the City Sterling and England Sterling are polar opposites, though I suppose having KDB and Silva behind you at your club can make any player look top drawer.
I just don't know what Sterling is bringing to the team at the minute and why he's being selected. Whereas Rashford first touch is more reliable and he wants to takes players on. I just don't get it but I'm sure there are wiser heads out there who do!
I am of a similar mind to be honest. I would pick Rashford over Sterling any day of the week. Sterling is being picked because of the form he showed for 2-3 months for City last season. I think Rashford is the better player imo, and if he was played more and used properly at United, he would be leaps and bounds ahead of Sterling.
