Like Armstrong, he's a player we've been linked to for a while. So I do believe our interest is real.

However, Leicester have already beaten us to one signing this summer. So if their interest is real too, I won't be holding out much hope for us.

Wouldn't you just prefer not to judge a player you know little about and make your own mind up after seeing him play for us, Schad?

Just think of the revenue generated if you choose to have HIS NAME on the back of your new shirt :1980_boogie_down:

I`m struggling to find many current Saints players who play regularly that don`t divide opinion with the supporters - Tadic, Boufal, Bertrand, Targett, Hoedt, Stephens, Austin, Gabbi, Long, Redmond, Cedric, Maya, Lemina et al. Maybe McCarthy is the only one !?
And so it is with Armstrong at Celtic.

I think that signing Armstrong has a nice element of karma about it with Saints poaching Celtic's best player just to annoy Rodgers. I am not aware of Armstrong but anything that puts a stick in the spokes of Rodger's aspirations has got to be good.

It is quite strange with the lack of enthusiasm for Scottish players these days. Wind back to the 1970's and every team worth it's salt had a Scottish contingent. I think Saints fans probably lost enthusiasm for Scottish players with Neil McCann - probably one of our most underwhelming signings.

Despite being Scotland's most dominant team, snapping players from Celtic doesn't seem quite that exciting these days. You cannot imagine Scotland producing another Kenny Dalglish. There is a sense that the quality of the football North of the border is a bit poor these days and the whole idea of Scotland having a hugely significant role in the history of football with their evolution of " combination" play in the 1870's and 1880s seems hard to fathom on 2017. During the Victorian era English clubs bent over backwards to acquire Scottish footballers and the whole notion of the "professional footballer" actually stemmed from clubs like preston NE paying for Scottish talent in a number of nefarious ways which bent the rules of the game back then. For about 100 years Scotland had produced a swathe of football talent that can have genuinely have said to have shaped the British game. Since my time starting to follow football in the 1970s , the joke seems to have grown beyond the tragi-comic aspect of Ally McLeod and the whole goalkeeping debacle to something where football in Scotland almost seems like a cultural backwater. I would be curious to know just how many scouts English clubs have operating in Scotland other than the Saints one with a season ticket at Celtic Park.

I can appreciate the lack of enthusiasm for Armstrong but probably best not to judge until he has pulled on a Saints shirt and got a number of games under his belt.

Agree, other than the fact he’s not Celtic’s best player. That’s Dembele or Ntcham (either of which I’d be delighted by).

That's a really odd link. Don't think that City is ready to sell him, and neither would they loan him out to a club that wasn't planning to make him their starter.

City ditch Bravo. City stick Fraser on their bench. City loan us Gunn in return.

His old man was a goalkeeping legend at Norwich despite his Scottishness....

More happy thoughts: It's got to be more likely that McCarthy leaves for someone elses bench, than Frazer, right?

Hard to say. McCarthy has been a backup for much of his career, so perhaps he'd be content to revert to that role. Conversely, this might be his last chance to shed the "career backup" label, and it wouldn't be surprising if there were lower half teams interested in him as a starter.

I’d be desperately surprised if a lower half team called Southampton weren’t extremely interested in him as a starter.
