<peacedove> Raul Meireles has stepped up his game especially since the arrival
of Kenny Dalglish. However, if Chelsea is willing to offer silly money we can sell
him. What do I mean by silly money.? I think £m25.:emoticon-0150-hands

If modric's 3 assists last year make him worth 30 million (<doh>) then Meireles should go for 40 mil plus, job done.

Meireles is nothing special. We have better options now and I'd imagine he's on mega wages. I'd realistically take offers of about £15m + (think about his age too)

Modrics 3 assists and 3 goals made 'Arry Redknapp claim that he was worth £50 million. Now thats ludicrous. Charlie Adam scored 10 goals from a similar position and provided a number of assists notably from corners and cost Liverpool £7 million.
Nani provided 18 assists and he's not worth £50 million, So if Chelsea want to offer silly money for Raul Mereiles, it wil be the only way they can land him. I still reckon Liverpool if they do consider, not saying they will consider selling will look for Salomon Kalou or Daniel Sturridge in part exchange. Thats the rumour I heard.
So to work it out in a £25 million deal, it will be £15 million and Kalou for Mereiles or £5 million and Sturridge for Mereiles.

Excellent point i forgot about Sturridge, if we can get 15m plus Sturridge i would accept that. Daniel Sturridge is better than Ngog so we could then sell Ngog to bolton for for 5m.

All in All with those 2 deals we would have 20m in cash(15m Raul Meireles & 5m Ngog), we would of lost Miereles but would of replaced Ngog with Sturridge.

    Spot on.
If we could get Sturridge and cash, we could let Ngog join Bolton, and then we could put in a £8 million bid for Ibrahim Affeley. Barcelona are apparently willing to sell for that amount.

Are liverpool a selling club? The answer to that is YES -we still have a list of deadwood that we would dearly love to see going out of the door.

Are Liverpool a buying club at this late stage? The answer is YES. But only if it was a 'target' that we wanted AND the price was considerably lower than it had been earlier in the window.

    DC must be loving it!

According to the Liverpool daily post, the source is the gossip column on the official LFC site, Liverpool have rejected Chelseas offer of a swap deal involving Yossi Benayoun and £7 million in cash for Raul Mereiles.
Also, the Liverpool Echo is reporting that David Ngog is joining Bolton today.

We should realistically do a deal for 10m to 15m plus sturridge, I dont think we need Benayoun as our midfield is covered but we do need a striker to replace the outgoing Ngog.

Sturridge+cash for Meireles would be great business.

Prior to Arsenals implosion i thought we'd be 5th at the end of the season. If we could get Sturridge, we should be top 4.

Meireles has been edged out of a starting place and i saw a hint of frustration released after the 2nd goal against Arsenal. The FA didnt seem to notice the finger he appeared to stick up during that celebration.
It will be interesting to see if Raul would now instigate a move from his side.

Sorry you're underestimating Liverpool. Liverpool are not competing with Arsenal for 4th. Liverpool are currently on a different planet to Arsenal. Arsenal are fighting it out with Spurs for 5th. They will not finish any higher. Liverpool are battling Chelsea for 3rd and Man United for 2nd.

Lets examine the pros and cons here.

    1. Meireles has picked up a lot of injuries in england hasn't he? But is that his history overall or has this last 12 months just been out of the ordinary?

    2. what does meireles bring to the table? central player with work ethic, passing ability and an eye for goal

    3. what options does kenny have if he lets him go? lucas and adam deep lying with only poulsen and spearing to cover with gerrard as an option. as attacking options he still has gerrard and henderson before we talk about suarez behind carroll

    4. so..... whats the fee? need 15mil at least to cover the outlay we made.

    5. sturridge is the one forward oujt there that has impressed but is available (in theory) would he want to move, he's turned bolotn down it seems.

    6. meireles age becomes a factor if he is not a long term option for us, either we keep him for the long term or shift now.

so in summation, i think meireles has a lot to offer us, but if kenny thinks he can get better then the time is now to exploit chelsea and ge tthe max out of this deal.... but we will regret strengthening their hand.

    Worst comment EVER.

Best midfielder on the planet is Xavi and he only got 3 assists or something similar last season. Both him and Modric are not that kind of player, they are the heartbeat to their teams and link everything together, stop looking at statistics and watch the guy play football <doh>

<laugh> I would have guessed you would show up on one of these threads with your bullet points.

Some good points though, I don't see how it can benefit us if we swapped for Yossi. I can't see Sturridge coming here. And it's Chelsea...I don't like our better players going to them.
