    Move to Newcastle United
On the 30th August 2011, Santon agreed to sign for English Premier League club Newcastle United F.C, after turning down an offer from AS Roma.

OMG HE HAS ACTUALLY SIGNED :)

    I'm always optimistic???

I've been saying from the start we have done a god job fooling clubs into thinking we won't spend the 35 million.

I'm afraid Santon's gonna be a bit of a dud. Dunno why, but my intuition tells me so. Also 5 mio is hefty for a squad player.

He'd be a definite starter, not a squad player.

This <ok> Im getting more and more excited about Santon.

Makes it even better that he seems to have turned down Roma in order to sign for us. Which shows we still have a good deal of pulling power.

Oh yes, one of italys biggest young prospects and a top player at the highest level will be our 'squad player'

Behave and watch Davide dominate :)

Oh shut up, presumably you'd rather we'd have caved in and spent £12m on a player with a dodgy injury record and one good season.

£5 million is as I recall the same amount we spent on Tiote, and Santon is 20 years old so he could well be a great player for years to come. He also put Ronaldo in his back pocket when he was playing for Inter.

A definite starter? What makes you think that? He wasn't a starter at inter. You're confusing him with Christian Chivu. He couldn't ever get past him and Zanetti, who's about 45. He was on loan somewhere second half of last season. Who is he going to start for? Rayor or Simpson? imo right now Simpsons place is the most likely under threat. Still, don't see Santon walking into the team anytime soon, so yeah, hefty 5 mio for a squaddie.

You seriously don't see someone who's made seven appearances for Italy already displacing Raylor the makeshift LB?

At least he's tall. It's a big step up from italy to premier league in terms of physical challenges, especially for defenders. Remember Dossena and Grosso? Italy fullbacks who couldn't cut it in UK or france. Right now he's more of a squad player, not saying he will stay there, hopefully he'll rule. But don't expect too much from a 20 year old coming from abroad.

José wasn't so hawt when he arrived either.

Mate. He was behind Chivu at Inter, possibly one of the best full backs in the world. And lets not kid ourselves....Inter are by far a better team than Newcastle. So, I think its likely he will be a first team starter for Newcastle.

I'll bet you my mortgage Raylor will start somewhere on the pitch against QPR, bar injuries.
