http://www.givemefootball.com/premier-league/striker-ready-to-snub-liverpool-for-spurs---report Manchester City striker Craig Bellamy is ready to snub interest from Liverpool in order to join Tottenham, it has been claimed. According to Metro, the Wales international has told Spurs representatives that he will complete a free transfer to north London, rather than Merseyside. Bellamy has reportedly been identified by Kenny Dalglish as the ideal player to provide cover for Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, but it would appear the Scot's attempts to bring the forward to Anfield will be fruitless. Liverpool was Bellamy's home for one season before the 32-year-old joined West Ham in 2007 But a Liverpool return is said to be out of the question, with Bellamy preferring to fight for a starting berth at White Hart Lane rather than provide back-up for Suarez. Spurs have already signed Emmanuel Adebayor from on loan from City to bolster their strikeforce, although Harry Redknapp is thought to be keen to add another goalscoring to his ranks. The Spurs boss could, however, reportedly have to make do without Peter Crouch, who may join Stoke before the close of the transfer window.
He does need weekly first team football so this sort of makes sense. Commitmentwise he is lightyears ahead of our present crop of frontmen, (obviously Adebayor can't be judged yet.) Hope we can pull this one off.
Didn't Harry try to sign him before? As it is it will be a shrewd bit of business to get him on a free- as long he doesn't want Man City wages.
I thought this was an advert for a Boxing match Bellamy v Adebayor!...surely no dressing room needs that! These two weren't too bad for City, but that was a couple of seasons ago with Hughes in charge. If there's any truth in this...well, I just hope not. I think Bellend might have lost it footballwise now, he wasn't very influential at Cardiff from what I hear.
We seem to be like some old dear, searching around on the last day of a big department store sale, looking for "bargains" that nobody else wanted earlier in the sale.
I think DL is probably out there doing what he always does stringing out till the last - a bit like an e-bay auction. Then at 9/10pm suddenly all the deals he is working on will be released to the media. However this time doesn't fill me with confidence.
Didn't Bellamy and Adebayor work pretty well when they had a chance at City? If the rumours about City saying they'll let him go free then I'd say snap him up, Bellamy can play wide too can't he? Perhaps signing someone like him would give Lennon a kick up the a**e too.
Surely, by now, we should have got used to the fact that we can't compete for the very top players. But we've been doing all right in picking out quality youngsters who do well. We've got no chance of competing with Utd or City until we've got a new stadium, which is years away so we just have to keep our fingers crossed. Levy can't create money out of nothing - and investing to recoup later just doesn't work in football - the increased earnings from the CL just go in more wages for the players that get you there. I suppose if all season ticket holders and those on the waiting list stumped up about £1,000 each we could afford to make a couple of £20m signings but I guess those asking for Levy to spend won't want to put their hand in their own pockets. I'm proud to support a proper club which is properly run rather than being a billionaire's toy
As a follower of the Championship (following Norwich last season) he was pretty good, but not at the top class level you'd expect him to be in the Champo.
Whilst I agree with the bit about being at the whim of some billionaire owner, who might, one day, decide that he's bored with his toy, and walk away. I disagree with the bit about investment. Obviously we can't compete with the Citehs and Chavs of the world. But, we could, and should, have done more than we have to invest in our future. We have one of the best squads of players that we have had for a long time. If we fail to invest now, fail to push on, these players will leave for greener pastures; and, by the time we finally get our shiny new stadium, we'll be back in mid-table. We currently stand at the crossroads. Either Levy means what he says about becoming a club that regularly contends gor the top honours, and starts doing something about getting us there. Or, it will be just that. Words!! Not only are we failing to attract top new talent, you can bet that the Modric situation will be only the tip of the iceberg, in the not very distant future. So, I repeat, come on Mr. Levy. what's it going to be?? Did you mean what you said?? If so, then I don't think much of your gameplan, so far.
100% agree. We've shown no ambition this transfer window with the exception of Adebayor (though a loan deal is hardly too ambitious), it took until the last day of the Jan market to bid or enquire for Aguero, Llorente and Rossi, where in all fairness we knew nothing would materialise. We may not have the wage structure City and Chavs have but there's still enough to be able to attract top players.
Wasn't Bellamy crocked most of last season and considering retiring? Klose would've been a better striker to get on a free transfer but he seemed to go under our radar for some reason. Not convinced by this deal but perhaps we might be getting shot of another of our strikers and using the extra money to get proper back up for VDV
Bellamy had plenty of offers last season and this, that is why he is linked to so many clubs but he is not interested. Reports today are that unless they pay up his contract so he can return to Cardiff he is not going anywhere. Basically it is not up to your club he will decide if he wants to come.
No that is not what was reported. Craig Bellamy is poised to stay at Manchester City after the club refused to offer him a package to cover the last 12 months of his contract. Liverpool, Tottenham and Everton had been among the clubs trying to sign the Wales international but their hopes have been all but dashed. Bellamy, 32, will now only move on if City resurrect talks to settle the final year of his £90,000 per week deal. Nowhere does it mention going back to Cardiff. I did start a thread about Klose a few months back and got promptly embarrassed when a number of posters noted that despite his astonishing goalscoring record at international level he only scored 5 in 26 last season. He's prolific for Germany but never really hit it off at club level for some reason but whatever, he's at Lazio now. Bellamy would be good on a free I reckon especially if we are losing Crouch, he can cover for VdV, play up front, or out wide at a push. I still reckon Kranjcar could cover the VdV position well but thats another story.
Exactly. Tottenham can't spend the money Man U, Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea can, and won't be able to come anywhere near until they have a new stadium. They have done well signing young players and bargains, and they picked up a couple of very promising ones this year. Last year was outstanding, and both Levy and Redknapp deserve a lot of credit. Nobody likes getting hammered, but when you play the two best teams in your first two games, it's all too likely to happen. The team should do much better over the course of the year. And if they don't: well, Levy and Redknapp have earned a lot more than two games' patience from me. I also don't see the fun of pulling for a billionaire's toy.
You can make a case--well, I can make a case to myself--that Adebayor and Parker (assuming he signs) represent a very good transfer window. My biggest problem with Spurs is that they have good players they don't use and don't sell--none more glaring than dos Santos. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Roc2lf6Zek You can make a case that he's the outstanding player on the #9 ranked team in the world. I can understand not playing him, I guess, but can't understand why they can't get someone to pay a good price for him.
