Rhodes is rumoured in several sources now. That would certainly be a make or break for SW. Like Dave, I'm not at all sure about that one.
Surely not? If it's a loan, and we're contributing something like £10 k p/w, then fine - it's not different to loaning a youngster from a big club, only Rhodes has a bit more experience. If this is our "big money" signing and means we can't afford another striker, then I'd be concerned. Rhodes, Srbeny, Morris is not a strike force I'd be scared by.
The Farke "philosophy " is to retain possession and frustrate and wear down the opposition, but as we saw all too often we completely unravelled when teams like Millwall boot the ball straight over the top and run straight through and score. When Maddisson scored from out of nothing we would then put everyone in our own half and hang on for our lives but we don't have him anymore so will need to try and create chances for our attack guy .
Rhodes is 28 on over £2m a year wages and managed 5 goals and 1 assist in 31 games at Wednesday . I wouldn't even want to waste money on loaning him . Barge pole and wouldn't to touch springs to mind.
The other failing of that philosophy was that to frustrate and wear down the oposition we would have to move the ball and our attackers around a lot more quickly. Passing it in a non-threatening and labourious fashion infront of them is propably mildly irritating but frustrating or wear downable? no. Bah!
I don't think Grant was on about £45k a week when we signed him and Rhodes has an ego of a Premier league superstar without the talent.
Rhodes? I can't see it on wages alone, but were he to be the kind of striker that Farke needs to make his system work then I'd cross my fingers and hope that he could be the missing piece. Through his career he has for the main known where the goal is. If he fits within our financial structure (Big if!), could be worth a punt. Bah!
But his goal scoring upto 2016 was stella, OK he failed/didn't get played by Borough in the PL, but his champ record is very good. Wednesday saw enough to sign him permanently after his loan, he's had a poor season, but if you can (Another big if) get his attitude and fitness right, and the system suits him, thar be goals in that thar player! Bah!
Weren’t we one of the top teams in the league for chances created? I thought it was conversion where we fell short, surely that indicates an issue with the personnel rather than the system?!
If you'd signed Rhodes last summer then it would make total sense and you'd probably have finished comfortably in the top half challenging the play offs.. possibly even higher But this summer seems an odd time to sign him, The creativity has (perhaps temporarily) been sold from your team and Rhodes has historically been dreadful playing as a lone striker. (as every fan of his previous club would tell you) If you plan on playing 2 up top then perhaps he is a sensible addition, but with the way you've played and what is expected of your strikers he is nearly as far from the type of player you need.
Buendia is Argentinian, but he may have German relatives. Going back to Rhodes, if we do get him on loan it could make sense if we are going to alter our tactics post Maddison. In a 4-3-3, Vrancic or McLean or Steipermann or Leitner (if he comes) could play as a deep playmaker providing passes to the front three with Rhodes poaching in front of goal. Rhodes would also be a good option from the bench when we're chasing games. Much may depend on whether Oliveira stays. If he doesn't, a smaller, quicker striker like Marriott would provide another option, interchanging with the wide players up front.
Problems over the loan fee for Rhodes apparently: https://readnorwich.com/2018/06/23/norwich-struggling-to-agree-loan-fee-for-rhodes/
