I’ll be shouting very loud for Sweden tomorrow, and for Serbia against Brazil and Switzerland against Costa Rica.
Out of respect for my very nice Portuguese neighbour and a slight antipathy to theocracies, I can’t join you in that.
Kane won’t be left out. However, I really think that if we’re playing this formation we don’t need his height up front, and we’d benefit from more pace than Kane has. So we’re I picking the team, I’d probably go with Vardy, or even Rashford. But then I’d play a back four, put Walker out right in his proper position, and play two strikers. That would allow for Kane and Rashford/Vardy up front. If we do well, I’m happy. I do have to ask though (as you or Stan tried to goad me into a response on this thread before) whether your motives in asking me specifically aren’t a little bit troll like? I know you’re trying to get an opinion from me and start an argument. Please prove to us all that you’re not that petty, col. Let’s focus on the football, shall we?
You have strong opinions which you are happy to share. When events, for example Kane scoring two goals to secure a win for England, point to your opinions being wrong, it’s only human nature to draw attention to it and seek your response. Which I note is to essentially ignore the evidence. Kane has scored 15 goals in 25 internationals, Vardy (who I think is a very good player but nowhere near as good as Kane) has scored 7 in 22. We’re only having a laugh, don’t take it so seriously.
Wot Stan said. I'll happily discuss football with you. I can't quite believe you still wouldn't start Kane, but eh, there you go. England have tried your preferred 4-4-2 for nearly all of the last 40 years or so, with a couple of exceptions. Kane has to start in order to maximise our chance of scoring imo. We already play 2 up front with our 3-5-2, which seems to suit Southgate's preferred way of playing. At last, England are playing, or at least trying to play a passing game, with plenty of fluidity and movement. Long may it continue.
Top three Premier League scorers last three seasons ... 1. Harry Kane 84 2. Sergio Aguero 65 3. Romelu Lukaku 59
I enjoyed last nights Serbia v Switzerland match. Today I will take a look at both the Belgium and Belgium matches, then I will watch Germany v Sweden. So a Saturday focused around the WC.
I am sure that they will. But I am looking forward at my first chance to. assess the Belgian team. Plus, a second look at Mexico. Apologies to any Tunisian or Korean fans!
Belgium 1 up. Good, if Tunisia sneak a win here we could end up with 3 teams on 6 points which is really messy. But hopefully Tunisia will give them a really hard game, and not let them play themselves into form.
And Tunisia get one back - game on....poor defending by Belgium, Kane could take good advantage of that defending from set pieces.
This might not finish 11 v 11. The worst thing about this tournament - which has been excellent in most respects - has been the lack of yellow cards for simulation.
****ing Neville brother praising Lukaku for apologising after a dive. Should have been booked. Belgium very dodgy at the back, but when they click very good going forward.
I was thinking more of the Tunisian feigning an arm in the face. I actually thought Lukaku initially tried to stay on his feet and wasn't really looking for a pen. England will give this Belgian defence plenty of problems. But then they will cause ours a few, too.
Tunisian LB makes a howler just before half time, gifts the ball to Belgium and Lukaku on hand to dink it in for 3-1.....
Just realised that England play Belgium on Thursday and there's six of us got tickets for a T20 at Lord's.
