Calling it an Arena is going a bit too far

hese are all very nice but I'm not convinced that there is an everlasting demand for city centre apartments and we are seeing plans for hundreds of them. Hope it doesn't end up like Leeds where there was so much over development that formally high-value apartments by the river ended up as low-cost student accommodation.

It depends on renaissance of Hull and if that continues. You look at Manchester and the demand keeps growing and prices keep on rising, but that is due to the continued increasing in population and relocation of major businesses. If Hull can continue to attract new employers to the area the demand for apartments will rise.

The irony is, and I have mentioned this before, if you care to look up, and walk along all the major city centre streets, including Whitefriargate, you will see lots, I don't actually know how many, empty rooms above the many shops that still trade in the area. Yes some are store room but not many, in fact some of the windows are so filthy, and the window frames in a bad condition, its hard to establish if the room have ever been used. I don't know who owns the leases or the outright freehold on many of these buildings but I do believe that Trinity House has a strangle hold on the property on Whitefriargate.

I had a walk down whitefrigate yesterday ref and as you say it's not a good sight.
The thought that occurred to me was, the only way to save it Is to open them up as bars. Put a roof on it and you've got outdoor drinking. Maybe

Colin Inglis doesn't want "hardened drinkers", as he refers to people having a pint anywhere near him. Or anyone out and about after tea time going by his rant over the expansion of Humber Sesh.

I had that thought a long time ago when Whitefriargate had lost a lot of shops and shoppers, Dennis mentioned Freemont St in Vegas, yes that is an idea but Vegas being Vegas its a video roof with MTV like music videos being shown, nice, but I can't see that happening. My original thoughts were to hand over all of Whitefriargate to residential use, but keep the pubs and bars if you wish, then offer those commercial entities space in Princes Quay, at advantageous rates if possible seeing as that place could do with some input, Marks and Sparks in there would do the place wonders I think. But hey ho I realise that all this is cloud coocoo land but its just a thought.

Whilst I'm on the theme of cloud coocoo land thoughts, my other one concerned the traffic problems in the West of the city, namely the major roads. It has occurred to me many times that we have 2 paralleled major roads Hessle Road and Anlaby Road, plus if you like Clive Sullivan Way. So my coocoo idea is to make them one way, not sure if makes any difference which one is incoming traffic and the other outgoing traffic. But consider that Hessle Road is for outgoing traffic, ok, all traffic destined for the road out of Hull use Clive Sullivan Way, local traffic Hessle Road. All in coming traffic use Anlaby Road as far as the city centre. All the roads in-between function as like now, now the difficult bit is people remembering which way the traffic flows when they leave a side street and enter the one way major roads. Of course there would be chaos as you have big wide roads with the traffic all moving in the same direction, Ferensway would be a link road to channel heavy goods towards Hedon Rd but there would have to be a lot of thought. We are not going to get any road relief from government, and our situation is only going to get worse, so just another of my coocoo thoughts. I've got my tin hat at the ready. :)
