IF we sell Bertie it would be a terrible decision to replace him when you have McQueen and Targett in the wings. If they’re not good enough they should have been released years ago. In truth they are good enough and we should be building teams around our youth players. Targett was virtually POTS for Fulham!

For me its simple. If Bertie goes (he is one of a few I really rate) then I would certainly keep Targett as no1 and McQueen as no2 as we have far more important squad issues to sort other than a left back

Fair enough. It’s the “in a couple of years” but that agrees with me sort of. Bertie is a very recent England player (still one of the best two we have) and Matty isn’t, so we’d be stepping down while he grew to that level. I think a 3/4 Bertie is better than Matt. However, Matt is still young and can improve.

Us sandal wearers have to stick together (though I prefer Skechers....other trainers are available). I think we are worried as much as other fans, but can't see the point in being negative about everything...as we have b***** all influence on anything. They keep Carrillo....he is a Saints' player and I hope he comes good; they get rid of Carrillo and he is no longer one of us and my heart moves on.

Then you have to accept that the quality of our side is going to reduce fairly dramatically both going forward and defensively.

There's not much wiggle room available to us either...

Probably not the right thread, but relevant to the digression into negative, positive, realistic....call them what you like....fans. From the Ugly Inside, an opinion piece about how over run the twitter-sphere is with only negative comments. Of course the general feeling is not happy....we have had a bad season and we aren't sure what the future holds...but the need is now for support (and by that we mean bums on seats...or behind the sofa :emoticon-0111-blush).* Negativity feeds itself....and the less negative fail to speak up because we know we are standing on sand.

*Makes resolution to be braver and attend matches (missed two I had tickets for out of cowardice last season).

I think you quoted the wrong post TLL...:)..but I don't accept that the overall quality of our side is going to "reduce dramatically" just by replacing Bertie with Matty. Bertie was not great last season and Matty had a very good season by all accounts.

Down to opinions of course but across his time with us he's been among the best left backs in the league, replacing that with an academy player we saw fit to loan out last year is going to have an impact no matter what way you look at it.

This all started with someone posting a similar social media pic of Bertie on a plane to the one VVD posted last season...IF he acts up the same way as Virgil did then it's good riddance, if he wants to stay and knuckle down and be motivated, then I will welcome that.

Was that even real...it isn't on his Instagram account. Seems very unlikely...if he wants to leave, he would have clearly talked to the club....can't see him posting a picture to taunt the fans.

I saw it, but doesn't mean Bertrand posted it recently.

Bertrand also followed up that photo an hour ago with another one saying "Just a picture people" and red and white colours on his latest Instagram story.

If the situation is as we fear, can anybody actually blame Berty if he wants to leave. He could easily play for a proper, well run, ambitious club.

Another example of the poor decision making and incompetance of the head of football perhaps?...:emoticon-0112-wonde

Perhaps he was loaned out as we wanted to keep him as we know his potential, but we knew he wouldn’t get a look in with Bertie. We wanted him to be playing week in week out.

Just being glass half full here as it is the weekend, the sun is out and I am about to go in the garden for lunch :)

Targett is highly rated at Saints and coming off a very good season on loan. Some of you need to cheer up a lil and be more postive
