I would go so far as to say that the only time we have looked consistently threatening for two seasons has been when Tadic and Bertrand have combined down the left hand side. Bertrand and Redmond have looked like two strangers. Boufal doesnt interact with anyone well enough. Yet again we are undoing the things that are working and not fixing the things that aren't. We have done it every year for years now.

 

I don’t.

I think Targett is a legit premier league player, but Bertrand is more than just a standard PL defender.

OTOH, Targett May be about our current level and could perhaps still improve so we should be giving him a chance to fight for a place next season.

 

If I read this at face value, it makes me believe that you think Targett is better than Bertrand. Is this what you think, or have you worded it incorrectly or have I interpreted this incorrectly?

Matty Targett May yet continue to improve, however for me, he is not in the same league today as Bertrand. Targettt instead of Bertrand is a step backwards today.

 

Ah great so just Tadic and Bertrand going then. Only our two best players. As well as lemina strongly linked away. What could go wrong!?

Suggestion that McQueen to Bristol City is less likely. Of course he may go elsewhere, but I would suggest to Les that may not be a good idea to try and replace the whole team as we struggle to sign 2-3 players. Would be impossible to replace the starting line up and the back ups in the same transfer season.

 

So where is his next destination? Leicester, Newcastle, West Ham, Everton, Celtic? If he goes to Brighton or Palace, then we are on a serious downward spiral unless his replacement is a serious upgrade.

 

Jeez Ides , where on earth did you get Palace and Brighton from!

I love how a few rumours and stories make almost everyone on here **** themselves!

I kinda like the weird ride we sometimes go on and look forward to seeing our new team compete this coming season. They could change the whole team and I would still be initially excited, for me things have got to actually go bad like last season before I start to think we may go down etc.

I remember a big chunk of people moaning when we signed Bertrand, Pelle and others and they turned out all right!

What will be will be! Enjoy the ride.....now hurry up and sign Freddy Adu!!

 

The last two were said in jest. Maybe he fancies a spell abroad to broaden his experiences, as well as having the opportunity to learn a second language. He has been a good player for Southampton, but sensing a "change in the winds" so to speak he could be ready for the next chapter in his life.

 

To defend Carrillo, he came into a side not exactly scoring, or creating lots of chances, and then lost his place when Hughes arrived.

 

I think the jury should be out on Carrillo for the reason you quoted and the fact that he was new to Saints and the PL. Pity he didn't land on his feet and set the world on fire because we certainly needed him to, but I'm prepared to give him some leeway as I would hope that there is more to him than at first apparent. Not bothered if he is moved on, but have no problem with him if Hughes thinks he can do a job for us in better times.

 

This wont be popular but I'm not convinced either Matty or Sam are good enough tbh.

 

Don’t worry about Les, he’s going to take a leaf out of Michael O’Leary’s “How to run an airline” workbook.

I think Targett will be an England contender in a couple of years.

I will add that I think that Matty had a better season than Bertie.

 

Likewise. I'll be fairly disappointed if we sell Bertrand with no intention of replacing him.

We've basically been spending the same as we were when we got back into the prem, just taking into account market inflation. So I agree with whoever posted that a £7M Jay Rod is now worth £15M. Breaking our transfer record on Lemina at £18M who for instance is probably a £10-£12M player back then (still a good deal). Les seems to have forgotten the huge increase in TV money hence we're only treading water - with relative spend compared to the market the same.

However if we just spend what we've brought in through selling this summer then I will have real worries that cash is not available as we hoped and something is going on. Of course we could spend £30M or whatever it was on Promes that we were told was more or less a done deal but it seems that is not going to happen. In previous years this has been spun as if we didn't have targets that were available therefore no point buying if they're not the right fit - which I will find incredibly hard to believe again. I will wait until the end of the window and if we tread water or it doesn't work out well then I'm afraid Les and co. will have no credibility left, if they can turn it around then they will get my backing again.
