Because we don't pay that much, we suck, we don't appear to be on an upward track, and Mark Hughes is apparently not the great motivator and club stabilizing force we thought.

edit: Oh wait. Geoff Cameron. Yeah, Mark Hughes really giving us the inside track on some star names there. So glad we hired this guy to bring in rejects from the team he put together to **** up Stoke.

 

Yeah, if true this is far more worrying than Tadic leaving (which was unfortunately always a strong possibility). We can't really stop players from going but we can stop ourselves from signing mediocre, over-the-hill CB's who IMO would be third or fourth choice on our team which isn't particularly strong at CB.

 

Letting Tadic go is an absolute disaster. He was second only to Hazard for chances created when we were playing well. Saying you're not sorry he's leaving? Well, I cant imagine there's any player in the club that you would be sorry to see go then.

 

Release clauses are usually massive ones and only seen abroad. I cannot believe that Tadic has a release clause and, if he does, it wouldn't be as low as 15 million. Probably he wants to leave and it suits us to sell....we may not like it, but the club might.

 

I like Tadic and would prefer he stayed, but if he doesn’t want to, just get as many clubs interested and get the best price while he’s in the shop window! He was was a small fish in a big pond where the pond started to dry out so he is now a bigger fish in a puddle. My big worry is a hosepipe ban and the pond can’t or won’t be refilled. Having to lose your best players is normal to all clubs no matter the size, C.Ronaldo, Neymar Jr, Bale (from us and spuds)
I will always follow the saints whether champions league or non league but a statement of intent from Gao would ease things, but not in the WHU way.

 

No-one should be surprised if the fee really is £15m. To our board, that is still very decent money.

I have all sorts of criticism to level at the board over the past two years. But constantly living in the past when it comes to values (buying and selling) is something that has applied to them for a longer time.

You'll struggle to buy a decent full-back for £15m, let alone someone who'll arguably be your biggest creative talent.

(Actually, in our case, it won't take much to be our biggest creative talent once Dusan has left. So poor will our squad be.)

 

I have to believe the Geoff Cameron link is nonsense.

 

It does seem like some sections of the football media are trolling us Saints fans atm....

 

There seems to be this trend of running down the club and suggesting that we can't hold on to players because of how badly the club is run. However, I'm struggling to think of a player who has left for this reason. Of our big names, Mane was always only using us as a stepping stone and like Wanyama, Toby, Schneiderlin, VVD, Lallana, Shaw, Lovren and Clyne left for much bigger wages that we could not match in our wildest dreams. Pretty much the same reason we lost out on Walcott and others. We are still able to attract quality players like Romeu, Lemina, Hojberg - even Boufal. I guess you could say Boufal and Fonte left because of the way they were treated but hardly a loss in the bigger picture.

If he does want out I have complete faith that Matty Targett will more than fill his boots....

To be clear, it's not impossible we're chasing Geoff Cameron. I just have to believe that we aren't, for my own sanity.
