Had Wenger bought sensible CBs when Campbell left us the first time around and a good keeper, we would've been far more solid during the past 5 years. This is where Wenger has failed us most. Next he neglected the defensive side of midfield when he let Gilberto and Flamini go. Our defensive woes have been nightmarish ever since. But the issue of not having 2 quality CBs is what has cost us most. He lucked in when he inherited the greatest defence in English football and rebuilt it with Campbell and Toure with Lehmann behind them.
Arsene is too focused on attack that he seems oblivious to the fact that we can be attacked. I agree that everything is also left to the last minute which makes one wonder if there is any direction at management level and in whose hands this lies.
He thinks we will always score more than the opposition. Oh. dear! That approach has rather gone tits up.
In some ways, the 8-2 was a good thing as it has forced Wenger in the market for better players. If we had got anything from the game or a close result he would have repeated his mantra about the squad being good enough but as you say it's a shame it had to happen, so unnecessary.
I agree. But even the great Brazil side had to realise that "scoring more than the other team" alone would not win them the World cup. So what did they do in USA '94 .... play with not 1 but 2 DMs ... Mauro Silva and Dunga !!! End result ... Chicken Dinners (winners).
